It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Vivian Antal on July 31, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born on July 12, 1932, Vivian lived a long, full, and independent life. Following the loss of her beloved husband, Steve, 18 years ago, she remained in her own condo, living independently until the very end, something she was very proud of.

Vivian was predeceased by her husband, Steve Antal; her son-in-law, Greg Smerchynski; her grandson, Taylor Smerchynski; her brothers, Ken Yano and Bill Yano; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Hap Edwards, and Elush and Gordie Vassos.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kim Smerchynski and Linda Galan (Jeff Galan); her grandchildren, Tahnee Smerchynski (Jory Stricker), Steven Galan (Justine), Lacey Galan (Travis Pool), and Shaylee Halbgewachs (Brandon) her cherished great-grandchildren, Axel, Skye, Willow, Cooper, Cruz, Knox, and Bennett; her brother, Lorne Yano (Marie); her sisters-in-law, Aggie Yano and Marge Yano; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Vivian, or “Granny” to her grandchildren, embraced life with remarkable independence and an active social calendar that became legendary among our family. Her grandkids often made plans to visit by dropping in over lunch, as securing time on her calendar wasn’t always easy. Granny would let you know that between cards, curling, coffee visits, and time with friends, there was usually only one possible free day available. It became a family joke that Granny had a busier schedule than any of her grandchildren - a testament to her vibrant spirit, strong friendships, and love of life.

She somehow always managed to win at Yahtzee, loved to dance. especially polka - and whenever anyone asked how she was doing, her answer was always, “I’m still here.” It was a simple phrase that perfectly captured her quiet humour and resilience.

Our family is especially grateful we were able to celebrate Granny’s 94th birthday together just a few weeks before her passing. Those memories will be treasured forever.

Our sincere thanks to the Home Care staff for their dedicated support and care. A very special thank you to Rikki, who held a special place in Mom’s heart. We are also very grateful to the staff of the Regina General Hospital Unit 6F and the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit 3A team for the compassion and kindness they provided to Mom and our family.

In keeping with Vivian’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Private family interment in Riverside Memorial Park, Regina, SK.

Granny’s strength, independence, humour, and unwavering love for her family will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
