October 23, 2024
On October 23, 2024 our lives forever changed. After battling cancer with such courage and strength, Dad passed away peacefully with family by his side.
Born March 9, 1943, Roy was raised on a dairy farm at St. Joseph's, SK. Before partnering with brother Reg in 1970 to form Wagman Bros. Dairy, Roy worked highway construction all over the province.
In 1967 Roy met "Ding" (Doreen), in 1969 they were married and in the years to follow they welcomed three children Tom ('71), Mouse ('73) and Nelson ('78).
In 1984 the brothers sold the dairy and the last of the cows left in May of 85. Over the next decade Dad would work as a feed salesman and manager, across the province, making lifelong friends along the way.
In 1995 Mom and Dad moved from their 25-year home to Ituna, SK and began a new adventure, as owners of the Ituna Motor Inn. In 2002, they packed up and moved to Odessa to be closer to family.
From then until his retirement, he worked in home renovations and landscaping. They moved to Regina, SK for a short time until making their final move to Qu'Appelle, SK in 2022.
Dad was hardworking but knew how to have fun. Over the years he enjoyed playing hockey as the goalie, with his Balgonie Hotel Old timers "Oly" buddies and taking in every polka fest, near and far. He enjoyed fishing with family, hunting with buddies, and socializing with everyone with a warm beer in hand. He was a lifelong Blackhawk, Blue Jay and Rider fan. He loved his gardens, weekend trips to Plentywood with Ding, sitting in his swing at Mouse and Pete's place watching the animals and a good thick strawberry milkshake. He loved cruisin the backroads and a good road trip. The last trip Pa was able to take was to Portage La Prairie last winter, to watch his youngest grandchild "Gass" Kassie play and win her third National Broomball Championship. Pa didn't always show it, but he loved his family more than anything and was proud of each and everyone of them.
Roy is survived by his wife Doreen of 55 years; his son Tom (Dannette "Netters") and their children Dakota (Deanna) and their children Mya and Cody James, Hayley (Noah Perras), Payton Wall (Austin) and their son Walker, Hannah-Jo; his daughter Raeleen "Mouse"(Pete) and their children Brett Mayer “Doll" (Bobby Giroux), Colton Mayer (Thomas Jordens), Kayleigh Klippenstein (Kyle) and their children Dahlia and Brooks, Kendra Dalgarno (Kyle) and their son Reid; his son Nelson (Shantell "Little Guppy") and their children Hayden (Ely) and their daughter West-Lynn, Kassie. Roy is also survived by his brother Ernie; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins and so many more that knew and loved him.
Roy was predeceased by his parents Frank and Helen Wagman; his brothers Reg and Jim; and his sister "Renie"
A very special thank you to the nurses and staff of Unit 5D at the Pasqua Hospital, their care for Dad was second to none, so much love for each and every one of you. Thank you to Dr. Panhwar and Dr. Aslam; from day one, our Dad was in the absolute best care and to Piper at Indian Head. You were Pa's favorite, you brought a smile to his face at every visit even on his toughest days.
There will be a Come and Go Social as per Dad's request on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in St. Joseph's Hall, St. Joseph, SK. Come enjoy some great company and a warm beer.
Our Dad was a friend to many, and Pa to everyone.
