Raymond Herperger

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Herperger on July 3, 2025, at the age of 84. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Mary Herperger; his brothers, Matthew, Nicholas, Emery, Albert, Alfred, Rudy, Frank and Wilfred; and his sister, Mary.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marge, and leaves behind his son Duane (Anna) Herperger; daughters Lisa (Dean) Laws and Kim (Scott) Sanderson; grandchildren Cameron (Alyssa) Sanderson, Graeme (Rachel) Sanderson, Katherine (Avinash) Herperger and Rachel (Seth) Herperger; great-grandson John Marcus Sanderson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray was born in Stockholm, Saskatchewan, in 1941. His childhood was spent on the family farm and, as a young man, he worked very hard farming the land and caring for the livestock. He always enjoyed socializing, dancing and helping others.

Ray and Marge first met in 1962, fell in love and were married 6 months later. Shortly after, they decided to move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, for work. In 1964, they returned to the family homestead after his parents had retired from farming. Ray then continued farming and raising their three children until 1971, when he moved his family to Regina, Saskatchewan. He continued to rent out the farmland for many years after, as he held it so dear in his heart throughout his life.

Ray started working for Regina General Tire in 1971, changing and delivering heavy equipment tires. His personality was so friendly and outgoing that he was soon promoted to salesman and eventually became a part-owner of the company. He was very proud of his business, staff and extensive customer base, many of whom became his very good friends. Eventually, the company was sold, and Ray retired from the tire business. He then went on to work with Sask Lotteries as a kiosk retailer for 20 years until he retired again at the age of 72. During that time, he became the highest-selling retailer in the province and was very proud of this accomplishment. Ray always greeted everyone with kindness, conversation, compassion and a smile, which made him such a highly regarded member of the community. Everyone who knew him loved him.

Ray always enjoyed working in his yard and took great pride in keeping his home, lawn and flowers in meticulous condition. He beamed with pride whenever neighbours or passersby would stop and comment on how beautiful the house, yard, and hydrangeas were; some even took pictures with him.

Ray was an avid golfer and thoroughly enjoyed playing a round or two with his friends and family. He also loved playing pool and card games with family and listening to his favourite music. Family and friends were the most important thing to Ray. He will be fondly remembered by everyone for his infectious smile, laughter and jokes, but also for his quiet strength, integrity and determination. He never gave up. He is lovingly remembered as an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who was kind, generous, humble, caring and compassionate.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, 5020 - 7th Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan. All friends and family are welcome. Livestream is available at https://www.stcecregina.com/. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
