Yanga, Portia Fernandez

September 28, 2025

Portia Fernandez Yanga

It is with great sadness that we announce that our family’s matriarch, Portia Fernandez Yanga, joined our Creator on September 28, 2025 after her short but well fought battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer at the age of 63. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and best friend.

Portia was born on April 4, 1962 at Unisan, Quezon, Philippines. She is survived by her spouse Hilario; children and their spouses Larrissa (JB), Lesley (Stephen), Adrianne (Ariane); grandchildren Clyde, Jillianne, Jonathan, Johanne, Nathaniel, Atlanna and Adeline. Portia enjoyed doing physical activities such as badminton, exercising and doing yard work. She loved playing bingo, going out and dining out with her family. She also loved listening to music and knew how to play guitar. She spent the last 5 years of her life living in Canada. She worked as an administrator assistant at Canada Life since 2020 and was known as a reliable and hardworking person to her co-workers. She was a loving and caring mother, a disciplinarian but an inspiration to her children. As ‘Mamu’ to her grandchildren, she was a spoiler and a generous grandma. Her positive vibes and positive outlook in life gathered her lots of friends and made her the life of the party. Her jokes and laughter will be missed dearly by her family, relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. CST in Holy Family Parish, 1021 McCarthy Blvd North, Regina, Saskatchewan followed by a public viewing from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. for those who knew her and would like to see her one last time.

The family would like to thank the hospital staff at Regina General Hospital ER and Unit 5E, Pasqua Hospital ER staff, ABCC volunteers and staff, Unit 3B and Unit 3A staff, Careica Health and the Home Care Palliative Team for taking care of her on her remaining days during her battle with cancer.

Sorry for your loss. It was a pleasure to know her. I worked with her at Canada Life, dropping off the mail or couriers on her desk. She always had a smile on her face. Knowing she is with the Creator and free from pain, is comforting. I was hoping she would beat the odds, but God had other plans for her. See you later, Portia. Til we meet again in the heavenly realms.

Dear Larrissa, Lesley, Adrianne and family,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of sitting beside Portia for the past three years at work, and I will always remember her calm and kind ways. She was such a gentle soul, and I truly cherished her presence around me.

I feel grateful to have shared that time with her, and she will always hold a special place in my heart. Please know that my thoughts are with you during this very difficult time.

With heartfelt sympathy, Rachelle
