Gerein, Patrick Timothy

January 27, 2026

Patrick Timothy Gerein

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Pat Gerein at the age of 60 on January 27, 2026 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He passed peacefully after a brief illness.

Pat was born on May 21, 1965 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Pat was the cherished son of Jack and Florence Gerein.

Pat grew up in Vibank, Saskatchewan and attended Vibank Elementary School and High School. After completing high school Pat went on to work as a butcher at OK Economy in Regina for numerous years. Pat then went on to join his dad and siblings in the running and day-to-day operations of the Vibank Meat Market.

If you could nail down one thing, Pat absolutely loved to do it was fishing. He would spend many of his days off fishing at the Fort Qu’Appelle lakes with his brothers and he took at least one trip a year to go fly-in fishing with family and friends in Northern Saskatchewan. He loved to dress up in his Sasquatch costume and scare the living daylights out of the American tourist at the fishing camp! His love of baseball started early in life with many surrounding neighbour’s windows being broken with mom’s garden potatoes…Pat standing in the backyard and bat in hand. His love of baseball continued throughout his life. He was a devoted Blue Jays fan never missing a game. When Pat was in his 20s he played baseball for the Vibank Giants and A’s as a pitcher, first and third baseman. They won quite a few championships along the way. You could bet that if one of Pat’s teammates got hit while batting, next inning it was guaranteed that when Pat was on the mound that batter was getting beaned. At the time he was one of the best pitchers in the league with a zinger of a pitch, over 90 mph and he threw a nasty curveball that was hard to hit.

Growing up in a family that always made music part of their daily lives, Pat was an avid music fan. There wasn’t a band or artist that he didn’t know and he’d love to share new music that he discovered with everyone he knew.

Pat was best known for his role as the owner of the Vibank Meat Market which has been in operation since 1974. He loved making different kinds of sausage and cranked out thousands of pounds - too many to count. His weekend specials were very popular with customers, especially his marinated steaks. Throughout the years working with his dad and siblings, they served the local and surrounding communities as well as farmers with custom cut and wrapped meat.

Pat was a cherished friend and brother to Barry (Bonnie), Bob (Shirl), Cathy, Liz (Tim), Frank, Bernie (Wayne), Diana, Ted, Mike, Jackie (Bob), Chris (Barb), Annette (Otto), Brenda (Steve) and an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Florence and brothers Ted and Frank.

The Gerein family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has graciously sent their condolences along to Pat’s family.

Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date.

Rest in peace Pat.
