Johnston, Patricia Ruth

Patricia Ruth Johnston

Patricia was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 22, 1939, the youngest of the 3 daughters of Wellington Gladstone Johnstone and Margaret Chichowsky Johnston. She was predeceased by her oldest sister Hazel in 2011 and survived by her sister Bette Petricko of Revere, MA, 4 nieces, 2 nephews and several cousins. With no relatives remaining in Regina, her life's journey will be commemorated and her cremains laid to rest in Nanaimo, British Columbia by her Vancouver Island family.

Patty was born for adventure! As a young adult, following in the steps of her 2 older sisters, she was off to other climes. After working in Winnipeg, Manitoba in her late teens, her adventurous spirit landed a job as a travelling cosmetic sales rep for Western Canada with frequent postings home diverting her anxious "mama" into an earnest postcard collector. After sojourning for several years in other parts of Canada and the USA, she followed her heart back to Regina where for many years she was the mainstay of the lottery kiosk at the Golden Mile. Patty enjoyed people and knew all her regular customers by name. After retiring from the lottery booth Patty melded her passion for golf with a job at Flowing Springs Golf Greens employing her people skills in the Pro Shop and snack bar.

In her later years, Patty moved into a downtown apartment where she enjoyed keeping a keen and opinionated eye on Regina by being the first one out every morning to pick up the Leader-Post. She valued her connections and often used her beloved Weather Network's inclement weather reports as a pretext to pick up the phone for a quick but concerned check-in with long-time friends and far-flung family.

Ever a fighter thus living independently until a fall at home, Patricia spent her final three weeks being cared for by the kind nursing teams in Unit 3D and Palliative Care at Regina Pasqua Hospital. She especially appreciated the gentle ministry of Chaplain Jennifer which enabled a well-worn and cherished Auntie Pat to close out her adventures subdued with the peace and assurance of God's forgiveness and unfailing Love.

Amazing Grace
Though far I roamed
Love ever followed me
Once lost but now forgiven I'm home
In God's eternity.

Condolences

Marion Lange

Regina Saskatchewan Canada

Deepest sympathy to all of Pat’s (ask known to myself & co-workers at Avon Drugs) family. Pat was our sales rep for SK Lotteries and she became a wonderful friend that we spent many minutes or sometimes hours talking, learning, listening and discussing and laughing till it hurt. Pat was a unique but good friend. Your family has lost a special lady. Rest in Peace Pat, until we meet again.
