Mayes, Marjorie "Jeanne" Jean

January 2, 2026

Marjorie "Jeanne" Jean Mayes

Jeanne Mayes, late of Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the age of 82.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter Gwen (Doug) Cross; son James Mayes; grandsons Michael and Shawn Cross; great-grandchildren Maddysin and Jace. She will also be deeply missed by her beloved dog Tucker. Jeanne also leaves behind her brother Jim (Barb) McMurdo; sister-in-law Enid Dodsworth; as well as extended family and friends.

Jeanne was predeceased by her beloved husband Delmar; her mother and father Viola and Bob McMurdo; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Ada and Elmer Mayes; and her daughter-in-law Arlene Fayant.

Jeanne enjoyed 61 happy years of marriage with Delmar, much of which she spent as a homemaker and mother. She was a frequent volunteer at the school during Gwen and James’ childhood. She returned to the workforce as they became teens and worked as a physiotherapy aide for several years. Following this, she worked in sales in the jewelry department at The Bay.

Jeanne spent many years square dancing, swimming, mini-golfing and bowling where she had a lot of fun and made many lasting friendships. She was frequently a member of the decorating committees for these groups and enjoyed letting her creative side out.

Jeanne never met a dog she didn’t like and delighted in spending time with her own furry friends. She also loved the birds and cats that were part of her extended family. She will be remembered as a quiet, compassionate, and steadying presence and for always having an open door and shoulder to lean on. Her family and friends were her greatest treasures and she was happiest spending time with them.

A Graveside Service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Regina Humane Society would be appreciated.

I will miss our conversations and the advice that she always gave me when I asked. She was my rock. The stories from when I was young. She was the “ mother “ I needed. I will really miss her.

Hugs to both you, James and your family. My memory of Aunt Jeanne was her smiling face. Her and Uncle Del sure knew how to have fun. Hope your memories bring a smile to your heart as well. Love Patricia
