May 29, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laverne Skolney on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the age of 78.
He will be fondly remembered by his loving spouse Ethel; his daughter Cherie (Randy); his sons Devin (Avril), Shawn (Alyson), and Wade (Brandi); grandchildren Sara, Emma, Bronwyn, Burke, Wells, and Robbie; Ethel's family: her son Troy (Tania); her daughter Tanya (Stephen); grandchildren Tanner (Jessica), Miranda (Nathan), Kiana, and Maverick (Beth). Also remembering him are his sisters Dianne, Marie (Rick), and his brother Erwin. He was predeceased by his parents Nicolas and Helen Skolney and brother-in-law Harvey Wahl.
Laverne was born 1948 in Lestock, Saskatchewan and raised on a farm near Wishart, Saskatchewan. Laverne worked as an elevator manager from 1972 to 1992. He then moved to Regina and worked at Interprovincial Steel and Pipe Corporation Ltd. (IPSCO) until 2016 before retirement. In his free time after retirement, he enjoyed transporting special needs clientele for Van-De's Shuttle to and from their appointments, learning about their day, and engaging in conversation with them.
Laverne was known for his friendly nature and genuine kindness. He especially enjoyed spending mornings at Lebowski's with his "Breakfast Club" sharing stories, laughter and friendship over coffee. A devoted sports fan, Laverne could often be found watching hockey and football, cheering on his favorite teams and enjoying the excitement of the game.
Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to inspire those who loved him and the lessons of kindness, loyalty, and love that he shared will never be forgotten.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Laverne’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
We are always available and on call 24/7.
