Ursulan (nee Garbutt), Judith (Judy)

May 18, 2025

Judith (Judy) Ursulan (nee Garbutt)

Ursulan – (nee Garbutt) Judith (Judy) passed away suddenly on May 18, 2025 at the age of 74.

She was predeceased by her parents Charlie and Sally and her in-laws Max and Agatha. She is survived by her husband Ray of 55 years, daughter Loretta (Georg) Borgmann and son Keith.

Judy was born in Lestock, SK on July 21, 1950. She grew up on the farm in the Punnichy area. After graduating she moved to Regina working various jobs. On February 28, 1970 she married Ray and they began their life together. Judy was a stay-at-home Mom until the kids got older and she returned to the workforce retiring from Health Canada.

Being an albino Judy’s eyesight was affected since birth. I remember Grandma telling us that they would move a lamp close to her eyes and at around 18 months Judy’s eyes started to react to the light. All throughout her life she struggled with her eyesight and her light-colored skin making her very susceptible to sunburns. She made a connection with the CNIB and found them very helpful with equipment they provided to assist her with. She got involved with Saskatchewan Blind Sports starting with curling and then turned to golfing where it became a lifelong passion. She travelled all across Canada and a few international tournaments, enjoying the friendships she made along the way as much as she enjoyed the game. Her high point was getting a hole in one at the Tor Hill Golf Course on May 30, 2013.

There will be no funeral service, but an interment will take place at a later date.

Memorial Donations can be made to Saskatchewan Blind Sports Association, 510 Cynthia Street, Saskatoon, SK S7L 7K7.
