April 24, 2025
On April 24, 2025 Joyce Dickens (née Bruhart) passed away peacefully and surrounded by love in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 91.
Joyce was born on July 23, 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Joseph Bruhart of Winnipeg; former husband Gerald James (Jim) Dickens; twin brothers Joseph and Jerry (Eileen); and daughter-in-law Susan Peutert.
Joyce was the beloved mother of Brent Dickens of Regina and Shelley Lipton (Jeff) of Sewickley, Pennsylvania; and the cherished grandmother of Christopher and Caroline Dickens, and David and Michael Lipton. Joyce also remained close with her sister-in-law Helen Anne Bruhart of Milwaukee, with whom she shared many years of family memories and friendship.
She had a gift for making others feel at home through her warm hospitality, legendary cooking, or thoughtful words of encouragement. Her pierogies, roasts, and Sunday dinners were family favorites, made with love and always shared with joy. An avid gardener, Joyce found peace and fulfillment in tending her flowers and vegetables, bringing color and life to every space she touched. She was also a proud and passionate fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, cheering them on faithfully through every season.
Joyce was born and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, although she has called Regina her home since 1960. The highlight of her career was working at Pioneer Trust and Pioneer Life, which spanned over fifteen years. In 1974, she joined Pioneer as the second employee of Pioneer Trust. She eventually became Manager of Sales and Marketing, and later, Manager of Corporate Communication. After Pioneer dissolved, she spent a decade in the tourism industry working with senior management and travel agents.
She was an active member of the Regina Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of Regina, United Way of Canada, and a member of the Canadian Condominium Association.
Her work philosophy was heavily influenced by taking a Dale Carnegie course. She discovered that the biggest challenge anybody ever has in any job or personal relationship is the challenge of dealing with people. "I don't care how much technical knowledge you have; it won't matter unless you can talk to people in a way they understand and appreciate. It's not what you know - it's how well you relate to others that makes the difference."
A Private Family Gathering will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church,1305 -12th Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 4L6, in memory of Joyce Dickens of Selo Gardens Personal Care Home. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Selo Gardens for their deep compassion and excellent care.
Joyce's legacy of love, warmth, quiet grace, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

We enjoyed having Joyce as a neighbour on Pasqua Street. She was lovely, warm and welcoming. She was always helpful, and it was never the same after she moved. Deepest sympathies to her family, she often expressed how much you all meant to her.
