Grundy, John Laird

John Laird Grundy

It is with extreme shock and deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, brother, and friend John Laird Grundy.

John was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Colette Grundy (nee Cote) and his parents Ernest and Marguerite Grundy. He is survived by his sister Leslie (Robert) Ramsay and their children Sean, Chris, Erin, Jordan and Derek; his brother Russ (Nancee) Grundy and their children Matthew and Theryl.

John is survived by his son Jim (Heidi Lindsay) Grundy and their children Harriet and Oscar; daughter Janine Grundy and her son Pearce; and son Dean Grundy.

The family would also like to acknowledge Dad’s special friend Sheree Eberts who came into John’s life in the past year and was a source of joy for John.

John’s entire working career was spent at SaskPower, where he worked in the Billing Department in a management capacity and retired in 2006. He stayed in touch with many friends made there and continued to play in the annual SaskPower golf tournament each year.

John always had a rich and active social life, filled with friends, family, and a love of sports. Curling - John was an avid and accomplished curler, playing lead in 3 Briers over his career. He also played in many provincial championships; both in regular curling and seniors curling. Golf - John had a love of golf that spanned his entire life, eventually becoming a member at the Royal Regina Golf Club. He loved that game and always looked forward to his annual golf trips and tournaments. He prioritized time on the links with lifelong friends and sometimes even enjoyed a beer and French fries on the 19th hole even more than the round itself. Flag Football - John played flag football for decades, often on teams where the average player was 15 - 20 years his junior. He loved sports pools, especially baseball pools and drafts. The common thread in all of these activities was that he did them with his beloved friends.

Like many in Saskatchewan, John had a love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders watching the games religiously every week and following the team. This love of the Riders stems back to his time in the 1980’s when he volunteered his time to be an official scorekeeper for the Saskatchewan Roughriders - an activity that brought him immense joy and a sense of pride to be a part of the organization this way.

John was giving and selfless, always putting friends and family first. He was a true gentleman, and he will be truly missed.

At John’s request, there will be no service. A private interment will be held in the Fall of 2026.

David M Miller

Regina Saskatchewan Canada

Our sincere condolences on the passing of your dad. I knew John through curling and had many opportunities to play against him, with more losses than wins. John was always humble and kind and loved to share stories and rememisce of all the fun he had in the many competitions he played in.
