November 23, 2025

Jerry passed away on November 23, 2025, at the age of 85. He struggled with Alzheimer’s disease for many years, and had been a resident of Shalom Cupar and District Nursing Home, Cupar, SK since May, 2023. Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.
Jerry is survived by his wife Sharon and her daughter Sherry (Dale Seiferling) and her son Greg. He is also survived by his sister’s children Belinda and her son Austin and Belinda’s sister Kim and her family; Sharon’s two brothers Don and Bob and Sharon’s sister Shirley and their families, as well as numerous cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Ackerman; sister Lorraine; an infant brother Victor; and infant twin nephews Michael and Jason.
Jerry was born on the family farm near Chamberlain, SK. In addition to farming, he became a professional welder, drove semi trucks, repaired small engines and was a musician. These jobs were often done simultaneously. He was a member of the Canadian Army, and was a trained militiaman in rescue operations. For 50 years he had a dance band, and entertained at weddings, socials and clubs where dancing was part of popular entertainment. Even though he was an accordion player, as a young man he played the piano, and did so for Princess Elizabeth when her train made a whistle stop in Chamberlain. As his health allowed, he continued to play the piano for the nursing home residents where he resided.
Jerry always had a motorhome. He and Sharon enjoyed a number of winters in Arizona where he made many new friends, and was a regular at the jam sessions in the RV Park. After they quit wintering in Arizona, they became summer regulars at the Indian Head Campground.
Jerry was a helper. He would often be seen helping someone with a project that needed an extra hand, or just making sure the neighbours were o.k. He never forgot his farming background, and looked forward to helping on his cousin’s farm at harvest time. He was a regular alter server at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Regina, SK. Jerry always had time to stop and talk. As his memory failed, he still had a never ending series of stories to tell.
Funeral Mass will be held at a later date. If you wish, charitable donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society, Cupar and District Nursing Home or a charity of your choice.
