Jean Markewich

Jean Markewich passed away on March 14, 2026 at the age of 85.

Jeanette (Jean) Elizabeth Brehm was born on June 12, 1940 in Regina, Saskatchewan. She spent her youth in Regina, on the family farm in Riverhurst, Saskatchewan and visiting loved ones in Ohio - places that helped shape her deep appreciation for family and connection.

Jean was an elegant woman who loved wearing black and navy, always with perfectly matching jewelry. She enjoyed quick trips to United States casinos with family over the years - it was never really about winning, but about the laughter and the wonderful company.

Faith was an important part of Jean’s life. She attended church every Sunday until her later years and continued to attend whenever her health permitted. She also treasured the tradition of gathering afterward with family and friends at McDonald’s for coffee and muffins - simple moments that meant so much to her.

She had a special love for dogs and never missed an opportunity to stop and check on one passing by. Her beloved dogs, Aspen and Yuki, held a special place in her heart and brought her great companionship and joy over the years. Above all, Jean cherished her family. She was a loving wife and supportive mother who always made time to attend her children’s activities and be there whenever she was needed. She carried that same love into her role as a grandmother, taking joy in watching her grandchildren grow, even from a distance and whenever possible cheering them on at their hockey games.

Jean will also be remembered for her thoughtfulness and kindness - whether it was helping pick out the very first flowers Evan gave to Bobbi or remembering birthdays year after year with warm wishes and gifts.

She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Paul; her father Michael Brehm; her mother Madeline; her stepmother Matilda; and her cherished dogs Aspen and Yuki.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her son Brent (Aya) and their children Noah and Kai; by her son Evan (Bobbi) and their children Victoria and Paul. She is also survived by her brother Ken and sister-in-law Karen; sisters-in-law Veronica and Sophie; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family across Canada and the United States.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the many relatives who helped care for Jean and kept her company, especially over the past few years while Brent and Evan were living out of the country. Your kindness and support meant more than words can express.

It has been a difficult time for our family, and while we wish we could have been by her side more, we take comfort in knowing she was surrounded by a group of great friends and family.

Prayers will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 55 McMurchy Avenue, Regina, SK. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and as the immediate family is currently living out of the country, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the Regina Humane Society.

Lord, we place Jean into Your loving hands. Thank You for the 85 beautiful years of life You having given her. May she rest in Your eternal peace, reunited with those she loved. Please bring comfort, strength, and peace to our family during this difficult time. Amen.
