March 27, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Jason Todd Gettle on Friday, March 27, 2026 at the age of 54.
Jason was predeceased by his parents Bernice Margaret and Ernest George Gettle, and his sisters Theresa and Deanna May. He is survived by his son Phillip (Carli) and daughter Aislynn; grandchildren Miles and Lydia; siblings Mark (Brenda), Denise (Loren), Tracey, Murray (Leana), and Nicole (Chuck); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Jason was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 17, 1971. He was the last of eight children born to Ernie and Bernice, with one sister lost at birth. Jason and his family lived in Regina for much of the 1970s before moving to Sylvan Lake, Alberta in the fall of 1978. During his formative years, Jason was a quiet and sensitive child who made many friends in the neighborhood. After moving to rural Alberta, he spent more time with family, especially the siblings closest to his age. Like many children of that time, he loved making his own fun. It was also during this period that he developed a deep love of music. Over the years, he enjoyed all genres - from rock and pop to country and western.
In the early 1980s, the family returned to Saskatchewan and settled in Saskatoon. By then, the older siblings had left home, and Jason lived with his parents, and siblings Nicole and Murray. He spent his teenage years attending John Lake School and Nutana Collegiate, getting into trouble and having fun like many teenagers do. It was during this time that he bought his first car and experienced his first love.
When Jason reached working age, he began working for his brother Mark in Regina, first during the summers and eventually full-time. He then moved permanently to Regina, which remained his home for the rest of his life. His career as a carpenter began during this time, and he eventually earned his journeyman certification. Jason was known for his strong work ethic throughout his career. While he remained steady in his work, he was employed by several companies, including Getem and Marnew Construction, Silver Sage Housing, and finally Westridge Construction. He took great pride in his work and in mentoring younger co-workers. Being Indigenous and a proud member of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation, he held a special place in his heart for supporting and guiding other Indigenous employees.
Jason had simple interests. He loved listening to music, watching movies, cooking, and baking. He was a child at heart who enjoyed playing games, building models, and collecting sports cards. Most importantly, his children and grandchildren were the center and greatest love of his life. He spoke of them with immense pride and joy and always did his best to support them and make their lives better.
Jason will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. He was a sensitive man who wore his heart on his sleeve and was loyal and supportive of those closest to him. Though he is gone, the love he shared will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society Canada would be greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Jason’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Kise Napew Muskwa (Old Man Bear) Centre, 1220 Scarth Street, Regina, Saskatchewan. Lunch will follow.
