June 18, 2024
It is with deep sadness that the family of Ioana “Nellie” Ruiu (nee Visan) announce her passing on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the age of 90.
Nellie is survived by her son Dragos Ruiu (Leah) and their children Neil, Bryce and Zim; daughter Cristina Ruiu (Lyle) and their children Jack, Nicholas and Victoria; her brother Dumitru “Miki” Visan (Violeta) and their daughters Ruxandra and her children Matei and Clara and Anca and her children Rona and Lulu. She was predeceased by her husband Dan Ruiu and parents Ion and Maria Visan.
Nellie had a deep love for her family and took great pride in taking wonderful care of them. Her husband of over 50 years was one of her favorite people to attend to with her children and grandchildren following closely. When she lived out of town and would visit her children, she would head to the kitchen to start making soups, salads and other healthy foods immediately. She loved the mountains and used to tell stories of how she would go to sit in a patch of green grass in the mountain shadows looking for four leafed clovers in her youth. That love of the mountains lead her to learn to ski and eventually move closer to them when she first retired. She was exceptionally bright and a leader in her engineering work at PFRA (Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration) during her years as a civil servant. She would often tutor her children and children’s friends in mathematics if they had problems to solve at school. She loved to read a good book and watch TV to relax after working. Nellie also enjoyed her time travelling all over the world with the love of her life Dan including many cruises and other adventures. Ioana “Nellie” Ruiu will be dearly missed by her family (including her Harbour Landing Village “family”) but they get comfort in knowing she is once again reunited with her partner Dan.
Special Thanks to the staff, caregivers and nurses at Harbour Landing Village as well as Doctor Pole for taking such good care of Nellie.
A Celebration of Nellie’s Life will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nellie may be made to the Alzheimer Society or Harbour Landing Village Childcare Center (306-559-5545).
