October 30, 2026

On October 30, 2026, Harold Nichols finally ruined his children’s joke that he was immortal. Cancer stole him from us too early after he survived polio, a seven-way bypass, a first bout of cancer, and at least a few other failed attempts from the Grim Reaper.
Our beloved Pappy is survived by his children Jeff (Bethanie) Nichols and Tiffany (Christopher) Wolf; his grandchildren Edward, Olivia, Bradley and Theodore; his sister Sue (AKA Mary Allyne) Cairns; his twin brother Howard (Bobbi) Nichols; his nieces and nephews, and more friends than we could possibly list. He was predeceased by his parents Marie and Lawrence Nichols and his brother Ken.
He spent his early years on the farm near Riceton where he was born, and then the family spent time in other southeastern Saskatchewan towns, including Stockholm. He eventually settled in Regina in the late 1970s.
He was a bit of a homebody, and his metaphorical hearth was always warm. His house was a second home for many of his children’s friends and their eventual spouses. There was always enough Good Host iced tea and BBQ chips to go around.
Harold was truly a collector of people. He made friends wherever he went, from work—including 25 years at Regina Pioneer Village—to the lobby of his apartment building, and probably on a scoot around downtown or Wascana Lake. He maintained those friendships through breakfast at a greasy spoon or lunch at the Cornwall Centre Food Court. Though he was known to frequent his friends’ softball games and a night at the Crown and Hand in his younger years.
His kindness, grace and sense of humour were unrivaled, as was his love of tinkering and puttering. It used to be home projects and car repairs; then it turned to technology. He loved the thrill of a new gadget right to the very end.
A service to Celebrate Harold’s Life will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in New Horizon United Church (Heritage location), 1050 North Arnason Street, Regina, SK, with snacks to follow. Feel free to dress casually; he didn’t even want to wear a suit to his own wedding. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you eat some chocolate and hug your people in his honour.
