On Friday, May 15, 2026, Heaven gained a new angel as Grant Woodrow Playter passed away surrounded by the love of family and the memories of a life well lived.
Born on August 19, 1942, in Sudbury, Ontario, Grant lived a life defined by integrity, kindness, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
He was predeceased by his son Kevin Playter, along with many cherished family members who welcomed him home.
Grant leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife Joan, with whom he shared a lifetime of adventures, laughter, and treasured memories. He will be deeply missed by his son Tony (Pam), his grandchildren Nicole (Lucas), Austin, Hayden, Taylor (Devon), and Reid, and by the lights of his life, his great-grandchildren Gabriel, Audrey, Madeleine, and Anastasia. Nothing brought a bigger smile to Grant's face than spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy.
Grant was the kind of person who quietly made a difference in the lives of others. He never sought recognition or praise, yet his impact was felt by everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He possessed a rare ability to remain calm in the face of adversity, always finding practical solutions and offering reassurance when others needed it most.
Family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues knew they could count on Grant for honest advice, steady guidance, and a listening ear.
Throughout his life, Grant believed in doing the right thing, even when it wasn't the easiest or most popular choice. He led by example, teaching those around him the value of integrity, accountability, and compassion.
He gave his family the confidence to dream big and pursue their goals, always offering encouragement and support along the way.
Grant built a respected career in the automotive industry and was widely known for his extensive knowledge of vehicles. Over the years, he shared his expertise with countless customers and Chrysler dealers across Western Canada, earning the trust and respect of many through his professionalism, honesty, and willingness to help others succeed.
Outside of work, Grant embraced life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the golf course, watching football, camping with family and friends, and cooking the perfect steak on the barbecue.
He was always ready to enjoy a Caesar or two while sharing stories, laughter, and conversation with those around him.
Whether gathered around a campfire, sitting at the family table, or cheering on his favourite team, Grant treasured the moments spent with the people he loved.
Grant's legacy is not measured by accomplishments or titles, but by the countless lives he touched through his generosity, wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love for family.
He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, lessons, and values that will continue to guide those who knew him.
We appreciate the great care and attention Grant received during his stay at the Pasqua Hospital and the William Booth Grace Hospice.
The family would also like to thank everyone who has shared their condolences, support, and memories during this difficult time. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.
