February 8, 2026

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, Gary Gilbert, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Gary attended St. Joseph's and Bosco High School. After high school, he entered the workforce and gained experience at a variety of jobs that provided him with a great work ethic and created his interest to be jack of all trades. Gary met his best friend and love of his life, Elanna, at a dance with friends. Gary knew she was the one for him, and through charm and determination, he convinced her they were meant to be. They married in 1969 and were blessed with two beautiful children. Gary dedicated 26 years to Dairy Producers Regina until it closed in 2000. He finished his career in the dairy industry with the private sector and retired in 2002.
Gary loved to travel, enjoying adventures with his family. Together they enjoyed camping in the early days, trips to Disneyland, Hawaii, Mexico, Las Vegas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Palm Springs. In 1986, they sold the camper and installed a pool in the backyard, which became the gathering place for many pool parties. Gary adopted Lake Life in North Colesdale Park in 2002, became an active member of the RM for 12 years and made many friends that are now considered family along the way.
Gary celebrated his 80th birthday this past summer with his entire family, including his grandchildren and great-granddaughter, all of whom he adored. Predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Julia, and his in-laws Louie and Agnes and brother Brian, his brothers-in-law John and James, his niece Andrea, and nephew Darren. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elanna (Keller); children, April (Mike) Johnson, Ryan (Heather) Gilbert; grandchildren, Justice (Alyssa), Rilie, Brayden, Marley, Cassie; great-granddaughter, Legacy. He is also survived by his In-laws Gwen, Donna (Joe) Brule, Bonnie Neil, MaryAnn (Wendell) Knoll, Maureen (Brian) Turlock, Wayne Keller, and Claudette Keller, as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews, extended relatives and many friends.
Funeral Mass for Gary will be held at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 5020 Sherwood Drive, Regina, Saskatchewan, on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may donate in Gary’s name to the Canadian Lung Association.

Gary and Elanna Gilbert, what a nice couple to have as neighbours, despite the fact that it was for a brief period. Gary was always busy in his huge garage, on the shore of Long Lake in Saskatchewan. Kanta and I, Anand, have very fond memories of Gary and Elanna as neighbours at the lake. We have known them briefly, but they are people one cannot forget easily. Gary will be missed by all of us.

We are so sad that Gary has passed and send our condolences to Elanna and the family. So many fun memories of our times with Gary at Happy Hours at the lake, card and dice games, enjoying his famous BBQ tenderloin, and strolling Fremont Street in Vegas. His volunteer work at Colesdale Park N keeping the community water well in tip top shape year after year and as Reeve and Councillor for the RM are a testament to his community spirit. He was a great guy.

We (the Parmar’s) only got to see “Gare” a few times a year, but I have several fond memories of sharing many laughs and refreshments with Gare at the Gilbert holiday and family gatherings.
Gare always had a corny joke waiting to shoot my way soon after the cordial welcome hugs were complete. Funny or not, we always both laughed … Gare, because he always thought his jokes were hilarious … and me, mostly because it was even more fun watching Gare laugh so hard at his own jokes!
During our family visits, I could see that Gare lived life to the fullest, he loved his family, and he was truly just a good human. The world has lost a Good One … but the memories of his humour, his passion for living life, and his friendship will live on in all of his love ones and friends.
Rest in Peace, Gare … because I’m sure you gotta be exhausted after all the fun you had living life! You were wise enough to know that everyone’s time on earth is limited, so you didn’t dare waste a moment … such a great lesson you taught all of us. Thank you!
Miss you already buddy.
