Faye Buitenhuis

Faye Buitenhuis, age 78 years, a beloved wife, sister, auntie, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 14, 1947 in Lestock, Saskatchewan to Minnie and Joe Kunitz, Faye was the eldest of five siblings and carried that role with strength, care, and devotion throughout her life. In school, she played volleyball and was proud of playing at a high level.

Faye married the love of her life, Jim, on October 26, 1968, beginning a partnership filled with laughter, loyalty, and unwavering support. She worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for 38 years, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.

Faye was a woman of many talents and passions. An avid reader, she built an impressive collection of books that she generously shared with family and friends. She found joy in gardening, taking pride in her yard bursting with colorful blooms and a home filled with thriving tropical plants. Faye had impeccable fashion sense, a love for puzzles, and a special fondness for listening to her beloved Elvis Presley.

A devoted sports fan, Faye proudly held season tickets to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for 37 years, rarely missing a game. In later years, she found great happiness in cheering on her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews at their hockey, softball, and ringette games. Her enthusiastic support from the stands meant the world to them.

Faye’s home, and especially the family cabin, were gathering places where memories were made, stories were shared, and laughter echoed. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved. To so many, she was simply and affectionately known as “Auntie Faye.” It was always a goal to grow taller than Auntie Faye and tease her about her size.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim, her sisters Donna (Garry Bentz), Brenda (Jack Linford), Traci (Shaun Gronick) and her brother Marvin (Penny Kunitz); sister-in-law Marilyn (Vern Reynolds) and brother-in-law Ray (Marlene) Buitenhuis. Nieces and Nephews Chad (Nancy) Bentz, Clint (Angela) Bentz, Calla (Danny) Massell, Natalie (Mike) Joslin, Kristen (Jeff) Campbell, Tyler Linford, Kylena and Kyren Gronick, Dave (Cara) Kunitz, Mike Kunitz, Chris (Maureen) Kunitz, Mark (Heather) Reynolds, Marcella (Sean) McIndoe, great-nieces and nephews Michael and Nicholas Bentz; Brooke and Josie Bentz; Leah and Ethan Massel; Riley Joslin; Taylor Gaveronski; Kenzie, Michael, Chloe and Coleman Kunitz; Austin, Braydan, Keegan, and Brooklynn Kunitz; Zach, Payton, and Aubrey Kunitz; Kristin and Jacklyn Reynolds; Erica and Douglas McIndoe.

Faye’s life was a beautiful testament to love, laughter, family, and steadfast devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Funeral Mass celebrating Faye’s life will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 1021 McCarthy Blvd North, Regina, Saskatchewan. Live streaming at: https://www.youtube.com/live/VCq61lkd-Y8 In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan in her memory.
