McKechnie, Evan Wayne

May 31, 2024

Evan Wayne McKechnie

It is with extreme sadness and heavy hearts that we share the sad news that Evan passed away peacefully at the age of 43 years on May 31, 2024 with his high school sweetheart of 27 years by his side.

Evan grew up on a farm near Bethune, Saskatchewan. At 10 years old he and his family moved into Bethune, however, he always remained a farm boy at heart. Evan attended Lumsden High School, Lumsden, Saskatchewan where he met his future bride Becky at the young age of 15 years old. From the time that Evan met Becky to May 31, 2024, everything Evan did was for Becky and their kids Luke (16), Layne (15), Lyla (13) and Livianna (9). They were his world!!

Evan was a loving dad, a loyal husband, a genuine friend and a powerful but gentle leader who knew how to bring the best out of people. Evan would do anything for his kids, I mean anything!! If Evan had chemo on a Friday morning, by Friday afternoon he would be loading his vehicle up to head to British Columbia for a hockey tournament.

Evan was a very focused and determined person. At a young age Evan was a self-employed journeyman pipeline welder which turned into a construction management position. Eventually Evan found his dream job with GEE BEE Construction as the Director of Operations. Evan loved his job and loved his employer and good friend Alan.

Ev had a very busy professional life and a very busy family life. From building his family ranch, breeding Belgian horses, attending all his kid’s activities, spending many hours in the air working towards getting his pilot license, working several months at a time in the Northwest Territories to unwinding with Becky and the kids at their campsite. Evan was always present and gave the best he had at everything he did! A true CHAMP!

Leaving to mourn his loss but celebrate a life well lived are Evan’s parents Wayne and Marlene McKechnie; his brothers Preston (Carmen) and Michael (Keith); mother-in-law Donna Fischer; Ev’s brothers and sisters in-law Mikel and Lizette, Jody and Rob, Matt and Shelly, Amy and Dylan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandparents Inez and Bob Anderson, Tillie and Jim McKechnie and Uncles Murray, Gary and Morley.

Evan felt peace knowing his buddy Chappy, his father-in-law Mike and his nephew Tyie would be ready for a round of golf. This gives all of Ev’s loved ones comfort.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Greens Venue at Regina Beach Golf Course, Regina Beach, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, just KFG!!

Those we love don’t go away They walk beside you every day Unseen unheard but always near Still loved still missed but always dear Of you who have a Father Cherish him with care For you’ll never know the heartache Till you see the empty chair
