It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Odela Milligan, who peacefully left this world on June 1, 2025, at the age of 95. Betty led a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and cherished memories for all who knew her.

Elizabeth Odela Yastrub was born on March 11, 1930, in Melville, Saskatchewan, to Frank and Katherine Yastrub. She was a devoted mother to four children: Catherine, Nelson Jr., Donald, and Shawn. She was also a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren: Brittany (Evan), Dru, Liam, Keegan, Levi, Eamon, Tatumn, and Kieran. Betty was predeceased by her husband Nelson, children Catherine and Nelson Jr., granddaughter Paityn, her parents Frank and Katherine, brothers John, Paul, and Michael, and sisters Pauline and Theresa.

She will be deeply missed by her children Donald (Terri), Shawn (Whitney), eight grandchildren, sister Gloria Leszczynski, sister-in-law Joyce Chilton, son-in-law Bill Shupe, and many other family members and friends.

Betty was known for her warm smile, generous spirit, integrity, and her ability to connect with people. She was also famous for her delicious family dinners, where she displayed some of the Ukrainian delicacies passed down from her loving mother Katie. In her early years, Betty enjoyed curling, golfing, and being an active member of the Kinsmen Ladies’ Clubs in the various cities that Nelson’s growing career at Saskatchewan Power Corporation took them.

As a dedicated mother, Betty always put her family first and made each move as comfortable and seamless as possible. She was a devoted Catholic and an active member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada. While working to help others, Betty formed many lifelong friendships.

Betty, Nels, and the children settled in Regina, Saskatchewan. Over time, they purchased a cabin at Crooked Lake, where some of the most treasured memories of family and friends were created. Later, Betty and Nelson became snowbirds, spending over 20 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona. It was here that the family gathered for numerous Christmas celebrations. Betty’s love and attention always made Christmas in the desert feel like Christmas on the prairies.

While living in Regina, once all the children gained independence, Betty began a career as a jeweller at Mappin's Jewellers. She excelled as a jeweller and was recognized for her excellent customer service. During her time at Mappin's, Betty amassed a beautiful collection of jewelry and figurines, which she bequeathed to her grandchildren. These will serve as heartfelt reminders of her genuine love and thoughtfulness.

We will always remember Betty’s love, her smile, and the warmth she brought into our lives. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live in our hearts.

Funeral Mass to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ the King Parish, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Parkinson Canada, Regina Humane Society, or the Canadian Mental Health Association – Regina Branch.
