April 4, 2026

Edith Cavell Klatt (nee McCormick)

Edith Cavell Klatt, late of Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice on April 4, 2025 at the age of 96 years and 8 months.

Edith was predeceased by her husband Hank Klatt; her parents Mary Ann and Alexander McCormick; her grandsons Chad, Trevor, and Bryan Klatt; her sisters Blanche (George) Zaran, Roberta (Gordon) Twist, Margaret (Peter) Shalovelo, and Muriel (Hartley) Pateman; her brother Charles McCormick; her half-brothers Alexander, Lawrence (Julia), and Donald (Irene) McDonald; as well as Hank’s parents Florentina and John Klatt, and his 13 siblings and their spouses.

She is lovingly remembered by her sons Brian (Cathy) of Regina, Saskatchewan and their daughters Sarah Klatt (Shayne Rozdilsky) and Christine Klatt-Pearse (Greg Pearse), all of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Bruce (Cathy) and their son Jeff (Haley) of Foothills, Alberta, and daughter-in-law Erin of Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia; Gary (Sandra) and their daughters Kelsey Klatt and Kristen Minto (Landon), all of Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan; and Gordon (Donna) of North Vancouver, British Columbia. She is also lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren Anna and Alexander Rozdilsky; Braidy, Ryli, Colt, Penelope, Ruger, Indira, Beatrix, and Noelle Klatt; and Peyton Carrier and Remi Minto. She will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Joan McCormick of Winnipeg, Manitoba, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Edith was born on August 6, 1929 at St. Andrew’s Colony, south of Wapella, Saskatchewan, and was the eldest of six children. The family later moved from the farm into the village of Wapella. It was there, over coffee at the local café, that she met a young and handsome Wheat Pool elevator agent named Hank Klatt, a meeting that led to 59 wonderful years of marriage.

The couple spent their first 15 years in Wapella, where they were deeply involved in the community. They later moved to Estevan, where Edith began working outside the home at the Estevan Co-op. In 1969, they relocated to Regina, where Edith continued her career at Lorne Avenue Drugs and Stapleford Pharmacy.

Edith and Hank were known for hosting many cherished family gatherings in their home. She had a generous heart and was always willing to help and care for others. In their retirement years, they enjoyed winter getaways to Mesa, Arizona.

Forever young at heart, Edith embraced technology with enthusiasm. Well into her early nineties, she remained active on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, taking great joy in keeping up with the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her joyful spirit and witty humour will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A family graveside gathering will take place at a later date.

I’ll always remember her waking up early with my brother and me, making us big breakfasts to start the day. She’d cook bacon until we couldn’t eat another bite, one time she made a whole pound just for the two of us. She and my grandpa took us on amazing summer trips through B.C., always choosing motels with pools because we loved to swim. Those memories are some of my favourite moments growing up. I’ll also always treasure our Christmases in Regina, surrounded by family.
