Donald Allan Currie

Donald Allan Currie passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026 at the age of 86.

Don was born March 26, 1939 on the family farm near Wawota, SK. Shortly after graduating high school, he began a 35-year career with SaskPower and SaskEnergy working in Biggar, Grenfell, Swift Current and Regina in the meter reading, gas line construction and occupational health and safety departments. Don enjoyed many activities including golfing, camping, water skiing, windsurfing, hunting/fishing, snowmobile racing and photography. He especially enjoyed RVing with his family and friends as well as spending many winter months in Florence, Arizona. Over a 30-year period, Don took minor hockey photos and wedding photos in many communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Don especially treasured the annual fishing trip to Weyakwin with his buddies. A dedicated sports fan, Don rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and Saskatchewan Roughriders while vehemently criticizing the officiating as well.

Don was predeceased by his parents Nelson and Eva (Firth); his sister Jean (Wes) Hill and sister-in-law Patricia Leitch. Don is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Verna (Leitch); children Allana (George) and Kevin; grandchildren Casey and Shae; his brother Garnet (Wendy); sister-in-law Edna (Lorne) Lowe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Private Celebration of Life with friends and family will be held in the summer of 2026.

I’m sad to hear of Uncle Don's death. He was a favoured Uncle - who I always enjoyed chatting with. He treated me like I was a big kid even long before I actually was. I will remember him fondly and with a chuckle - which he was very good at doing.
