Debbie Dodds (nee Wylie), passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024 at the age of 60, surrounded by family and friends.
Debbie was born to Bob and Carole Wylie in Regina, SK, and grew up in Winnipeg, MB before moving to Port Coquitlam, BC in high school. She returned to Regina where she attended dental assisting school, and went on to work at Pasqua South Oral Health Clinic for many years where she loved chatting, and many of the patients became her lifelong friends.
Debbie was a devoted mother to Christi and Kayla, who she raised with the love of her life, Darcy. She seemingly had endless number of friends, but her two best friends were her granddaughters, Stella and Sloane. She loved nothing more than shopping for those girls, taking them to the lake, having dance parties or snuggling on the couch. They were her pride and joy, never missing a recital, special event or daily phone call. She was a devout animal lover and demonstrated this both by taking in many strays over her lifetime or by sending approximately 40 animal videos per day to everyone she loved on social media. She was also a mom to her cat, Indigo, and grandma to her dog-grandson, Lenin.
Debbie made friends everywhere she went. Debbie had a passion for life’s simple pleasures—reading, Hallmark movies, her trailer at the WeeToo Beach, and her Saturday walking class. She had an uncanny sense for when someone needed cheering up and would bring a snack or send a funny video to brighten their day. Those who knew Debbie remember her kindness, humour, generosity, and of course her legendary shopping skills. If there were a shopping Olympics, Deb would have won the gold medal 40 years running. She took note of everyone’s favourite snacks, colours, and scents and would pick them up anytime she saw they were on sale. Music was also ever-present in her life. She famously followed the Bay City Rollers across Canada as a teenager and met Darcy at a Poison concert. Fittingly, her final moments were accompanied by the song “Band on the Run.”
Debbie was predeceased by her parents Bob and Carole Wylie. She is survived by her loving husband Darcy; daughters Christi and Kayla Olson; granddaughters Stella and Sloane (and their father Steven Kowalsky); her sister Linda Roberts; chosen sister Molly Good; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. We would be remiss not to mention her nephew Justin, who selflessly was a living liver donor for Debbie prior to her passing. She leaves behind many close friends and a legacy of love and kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Regina Humane Society, 4900 Parliament Avenue, Regina, SK on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an animal rescue of your choice and that you give your pets an extra treat from Deb.
