April 12, 2025
Our hearts are shattered to announce that Darrel Robert Irvine went home to Jesus on Saturday, April 12, 2025. He was surrounded by his family and gently cared for by the kind staff at the Regina General Hospital’s Cardiac Care Unit.
Darrel Robert Irvine was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1954 to Larry and Gladys (Lange) Irvine. Darrel grew up in the Lumsden and Tregarva area in Saskatchewan. His biggest influences in those formative years were his Aunt Leone (Irvine) and Uncle Del Thunberg, who were like second parents to him.
Darrel married Debbie, the love of his life, in 1975. Together, they raised two children, Jill (Trevor) Wiens and Tim (Karri) Irvine.
Darrel was an elite journeyman welder who held many tickets in a variety of areas and levels of expertise. The majority of his career was as a contract pipeline welder with SaskEnergy. This work took him all over Saskatchewan. Through his labour as a contract welder, Darrel was able to achieve his dream of owning his own farm in the Tregarva area. Darrel was a worker, and his best days on the farm involved a lot of dirt, manual labour, and problem solving with his son Tim, and his Uncle Del.
Darrel also loved relaxing at his lake house with Debbie where they dreamed of growing old together. As often as he could, Darrel would take his family to Hawaii where he would backfloat in the ocean, tease his grandchildren and wait for the shimmer to come out on the water. Darrel loved a good game of Yahtzee (unless he was losing), driving his newly acquired 2007 silver Corvette, helping others in any way he could, and eating popcorn with his grandkids. He was happiest when his house was full of the people he loved.
Darrel was an Elder at Rosewood Park Alliance Church - a role he took very seriously and prayed a lot about. He was dedicated to his church community and providing as much candy as he could to the youngest generation. Darrel’s greatest legacy was the role he had as a loving husband, the best Dad, and our one and only Papa. His kindness, sense of humour, tenacity, strength and generosity will live on in his children and grandchildren because “this is love”.
Darrel is survived by his loving wife Debbie (Hotz) Irvine; his two children Jill (Trevor) Wiens and Tim (Karri) Irvine; his five grandchildren Simon, Elizabeth, Claire, Levi and Micah; his siblings John (Lynda) Irvine, Gregg (Patricia) Irvine and Cheryl Irvine; and his precious Aunt Leone Thunberg.
Darrel’s Celebration of Life will take place at Rosewood Park Alliance Church, 1300 N Courtney Street, Regina, Saskatchewan on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 1:00 pm. Livestreaming of the service may be viewed at: https://rosewoodpark.ca/watch. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that instead you make a donation to Dallas Valley Ranch Camp’s Campership Fund because Darrel always wanted kids to experience Jesus’ love.
