Axel Windt passed away on October 26, 2026 at the age of 64.
Axel was a man who truly excelled at life. Gifted with countless talents, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an incredible zest for living, there seemed to be very little he couldn't do. Whatever he set his mind to, he did with enthusiasm, creativity, and determination.
His remarkable ability to build and create began at a very young age. At just 13 years old, Axel built a bar, setting the stage for a lifetime of projects and accomplishments. He went on to build three beautiful homes, doing everything himself, from the original design to the electrical, plumbing, walls, and roofing. His vision, skill, and resourcefulness were truly extraordinary.
Axel had a special place in his heart for the family cottage at Sunnyside, where some of his happiest memories were made, especially during the much-loved tradition of "Pig Week." Never one to do things halfway, Axel purchased a school bus and transformed it into a party bus, affectionately named La Bus. It quickly became part of the fun, creating countless memories and good times at Sunnyside and Barn 22.
His entrepreneurial spirit was never far away. Axel even decided to publish his own magazine, Restaurant Trader, another example of his willingness to take on new challenges and turn ideas into reality.
Axel also excelled in the hospitality industry. He began working alongside his parents, Herb and Amy, and eventually took over the running of the Gladstone Inn. He later spent many years working at Memories in Regina, where his talents and personality made him a familiar and valued presence.
A wonderful cook, Axel took great pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends. Whether gathered at the cottage or in his own home, the food was always enjoyed, but it was the company, laughter, and time spent together that made those occasions so special.
Later in life, Axel and Joanne joined forces professionally, working together at Modspace, refurbishing job site trailers. Once again, Axel brought his practical skills, creativity, and determination to something new.
Above all, Axel cherished his family and friends. He made a point of staying in touch and maintaining those connections throughout the years. He loved to travel, exploring destinations across Canada and venturing to Mexico, Germany, and Thailand. Wherever he went, Axel had a wonderful ability to make friends. His outgoing personality, sense of fun, and genuine enjoyment of life made him someone people were naturally drawn to.
Axel was a man who lived life on his own terms. He was creative, resourceful, adventurous, generous with his talents, and always ready for the next project or adventure. He brought laughter, friendship, and unforgettable memories wherever he went.
Axel lived a full and colourful life, leaving behind a legacy of wonderful memories, incredible accomplishments, and friendships that spanned the miles.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
