Winston Wayne McNab

It is with deep sadness and aching hearts that we announce the passing of Winston Wayne McNab on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the age of 61 in Weyburn, SK, after a long and courageous battle with Kennedy’s disease.

Winston was born in 1963, in Lestock, Saskatchewan, to Audrey McNab and Harry Muzichuk, and was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sisters Valerie McNab and Margret Lafontain. He was also predeceased by his foster father Stephen Hovind and his foster brother John Grosse.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience, and will be deeply missed by his children Amanda McNab, Amy McNab, Laci (Russel) Kupper, Zachary McNab, and Elizabeth McNab. He was a proud grandfather to Theodore Raaf. Winston is also survived by his siblings Harold McNab, Kevin McNab, Lionel (Gail) McNab, Douglas McNab, and Lavern (Eddie) Bitternose, as well as his foster mother Betty Hovind, foster brothers Doug (Cindy) Hovind, Tim (Verla) Hovind, foster sisters Cindee (Mark) Rowe and Pam (Dwayne) Service, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Winston’s career spanned many years and roles. He worked for CBC as a cameraman from 1991 to 2001 and as a pipe inspector for Ipsco/Evraz from 2001 to 2014. Known as a jack of all trades, Winston was hardworking, determined, and always willing to lend a hand to those in need. His strength and caring nature were evident in every aspect of his life.

A man of many passions, Winston had a deep love for sci-fi and action movies, woodworking, and music. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and his enthusiasm for these hobbies was shared with family and friends. He will also be remembered for his stubbornness; if Winston made up his mind about something, there was no changing it. But that same determination was part of what made him such a strong and resilient person.

Winston was also a man who loved the outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air. He was happiest when surrounded by nature. He was a true craftsman and helped build the family home in Qu'Appelle from the ground up, a testament to his dedication and love for his family.

Winston’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his dedication to his children, and his generous heart.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to the dedicated staff at Tatagwa View in Weyburn for their compassionate care of Winston during his final months. We also want to express our sincere gratitude to Winston’s close friends, Kevin and Brent from Almassy Metz Funeral and Cremation Services, for their unwavering support and kindness throughout his final journey.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2025. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Kennedy’s Disease Association to further research. McNab, Winston Wayne Hunting Photo.jpg
