December 14, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Verne Mellor, age 84, of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. He passed away early in the morning on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Verne was predeceased by his parents, William and Jean Mellor, his siblings Harvy (Agnus) Mellor, Jean (Art) Gallant, June (Arvid) Bergquist, Ray, and Laurence (Lorraine). Verne survives by his loving wife of 62 years, Marlene (Knoblauch); their two daughters Marla May Mellor and Shellanne (Mario) Pasquale; grandchildren Kourtney Hunt, Kristian Gordon, Aubrey Pasquale; great grandchild Ava Hunt; his siblings, Audrey (John) Fox, Doug (Therse), Joy (Cecil) Elliot and Cam; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Verne spent his infant years in Gardenhead, SK before the family moved to Shaunavon at the age of 5. He grew up, attended school in Shaunavon and worked on the family farm as well as the oil rigs. In 1962 he married Marlene Knoblauch. They rented land in the Shaunavon area for about 3 years before returning to take over the Mellor farm. It is here where they planted their roots, started a family and ran their farm and livestock business. In 1998, Verne transitioned his acres on the farm and Pine Cree Park into natural grasslands to build his 26 year-long love for the bison business.
Verne was a man of few words but had a heart of gold and a soft spot for his family or anyone in need. He was not one to sit too long and always had something to do or to fix. In his earlier years he enjoyed curling with Marlene, volunteering with the Shaunavon Boy Scouts, taking Marla to Gymkhana and Shellanne to skate.
There have been many adventures, curves and dips but it has been a good life. You will be missed by many but forever in our hearts. Rest in peace Verne and keep chasing those bison!
The Mellor family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life for Verne at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shaunavon, SK on Friday, 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Please feel free to share your memories and join the family for a luncheon at the church after the service. For those wishing, donations may be made in memory of Verne to the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Shaunavon, SK. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Almassy Metz Funeral & Cremation Services, Regina, SK.
