Sitter, Terry A.

March 22, 2025

Terry A. Sitter

“When it’s my time, it’s my time,” a phrase Terry often said. Terry A. Sitter passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the age of 75, in the comfort of his bed with the TV on.

Anyone that knew Terry knew he was stubborn and opinionated and if you didn't like him, he didn't care. He told it like it was, whether you wanted to hear it or not, which earned him countless arguments with absolutely no lessons learned. Facts and counter arguments meant little; he knew best. Always. Right to the end. He was gruff, loud and judgmental. His grandchildren learned all the best swear words from him. He was impatient and surly and completely unapologetic about it. He worked hard and played harder and did exactly what he wanted to do, whether it was good for him or not.

But...if you were part of his circle, you were fiercely loved and you knew it. You were protected and spoiled to the best of his abilities. You laughed (and cringed) at his off-colour stories and accepted his faults as part of his charm. You knew that under that tough exterior was a soft-hearted and sensitive soul, who could tear up at sappy commercials and thought his grandkids walked on water. You knew what he said was from the heart, unfiltered and brash as it may be. But you never, ever, second guessed his love for you. Even when you were angry with him, you knew. Even when you were shocked by his antics, you knew. Even if you went years without speaking, you knew. If you were his friend, you were a friend for life.

Terry had a great love of sports, whether it was playing them in his younger days or watching them on TV, you didn’t bug him while the game was on. He was a great athlete who excelled in baseball. He loved the game and played as often as he could. He was even asked to play for the Western Canadian Baseball league in Melville, Saskatchewan, but chose to stay in Regina to work and then raise a family.

Terry worked at Ipsco (Evraz) for over 30 years as a customer inspector. He learned the trade of pipe inspecting, then moved up the chain to lead-hand and finally supervisor. His career allowed him to see parts of the world like the United States, Japan and Germany. Everywhere he went he made new friends (and probably a few enemies). His favorite part about his job was being able to ‘shoot the shit’ with all the boys.

Terry was an avid hunter and fisherman. His dad, Alex, always said that he had the best shot. Throughout his life his favorite times were spent with family and friends hunting in Saskatchewan and Montana, fishing up in Northern Saskatchewan, and as he got older, sitting on the pier at Shell and Hoss’s cabin. He loved these activities so much that one of the rooms in his house was dedicated to these memories.

Terry was predeceased by his mother Bernadine Sitter, his brother Leonard (Barn) Sitter and adopted brother Harry Lang. He is survived by his father Alex Sitter; his daughters Erin Sitter and Shalyn (Scott) Sitter; his sisters Lynne (Ron) Finnie and Shelley (Rosario) Carteri and special friend Myrna Kulscar. TAS also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Nash and Foster Linehan and Dara and Wyatt Montgomery; his nephews Trevor Finnie, Luke (Mandy) Sitter, Logan (Amy) Sitter; nieces Meghan (Donal) Carteri, Carlina (Craig) Weisbrod; nephews Dustin (Micheline) Lang and Devon (Angela) Lang; as well as many other family members and friends.

As we say goodbye, we do so with tears, but also the best, most colourful memories. From his years at the pipe mill, to countless innings on the ball diamond and endless summers on the lake, nobody had a dad, friend, brother, uncle, son, grandfather, boss or teammate like TAS.

Private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, raise a glass and cheers to TAS.

You became my big brother too when I was 15, lots of good memories. All week, I keep expecting a message from you about the Blue Jays! And I can just picture your mom listening to you and Barn telling her all your hunting, fishing, and baseball stories. Say hi to them both for me and the boys. We will miss you. xoxo

My sincere condolences to Erin, Shalyn and all those who will miss Terry’s presence. Some of my best childhood memories involve “Uncle” Terry stopping by to visit my dad. I learned the lyrics to all the best Beatles songs through their friendship! Hope all the happy memories bring comfort at this time.

Hey Erin and Shalyn. I’m sorry about your pops, he was a cool uncle growing up. I remember his awesome den in the basement very well, eating ketchup chips with you guys and watching horror movies in the next room. I’m sorry I didn’t see him more later in life. The photo in the obit is exactly as I remember him. RIP big guy.
