Schurr (née Sherman), Susan Sydney

June 2, 2026

Susan Sydney Schurr (née Sherman)

Susan Sydney Schurr (née Sherman) passed away on June 2, 2026 in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 83, following complications from a recent surgery. Born in Los Angeles, California, Susan eventually made Canada her home, living in Edmonton, Ottawa and later Regina; she lived a vibrant and fulfilling life that touched the hearts of many.

Susan is lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Bryce; her daughter Carie and son-in-law David, along with their son Ryan; her son Sean and daughter-in-law Elizabeth, along with their children Heidi and Simon.

A woman of remarkable warmth and generosity, Susan had a gift for bringing people together. She loved to cook and host gatherings of all sizes, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary celebrations. For Susan, the weekend began on Thursday and stretched joyfully into Tuesday - a testament to her zest for life and her passion for entertaining friends and family. Her home was always a welcoming haven filled with laughter and love.

Susan’s adventurous spirit led her to explore the world through travel. She embraced new experiences with enthusiasm and curiosity. Her flair for fashion and decor was evident in every aspect of her life - whether shopping for the perfect outfit or designing spaces that reflected her impeccable taste.

Susan will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and natural gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and included. Her legacy of kindness and hospitality will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

As per her wishes cremation will take place. As there will not be a funeral or memorial service, we hope that we may gather together here on this condolences page to share memories and stories amongst her friends far and wide. May the memories of Susan bring comfort to those who knew her and loved her.

Should you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations towards your favourite charity, made in her memory, would be a kind and generous gesture.

So sorry to hear this news. Sincere condolences to the extended Schurr family.

Susan Schurr was the most effervescent person we have ever met. She was the bubbles in the champagne, the catalyst for countless memorable get-togethers. Some were meticulously planned, and some were completely spontaneous. (One time, around midnight, we were already fast asleep when she invited us over for bridge. We simply went in our pyjamas.) We will miss her a lot.

A sprig of green, a splash of color from backyard flowers, delicious bowls of savory and sweet bites, quick wit from her everr-partner, music, and voila, a Susan event is made. From those came memories held by friends from college days in Northridge, fun nights in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Susan made moments, elegant moments, and friends. God Bless our dear Susan!

My sincere condolences to Bryce, Carie, and Sean. Susan was a wonderful woman and mother whom I had the pleasure of knowing for more than 30 years. She was someone who always greeted me with a smile, warmth, and genuine kindness, and who unfailingly treated me as one of the family. I was fortunate to be included in many family gatherings, dinner parties, and celebrations over the years, as well as some of Susan’s travels abroad, including visit to us in Britain. One particular memory that always makes me smile is following her around Paris as she embarked on what can only be described as power shopping. Whenever she emerged from a store carrying another bag and we asked what she had bought, the answer was invariably, “just something silly.” Susan certainly enjoyed a good shop. I remember watching a travel program about Russia and suddenly spotting Susan in the background of a clip, enthusiastically drinking vodka shots in a restaurant somewhere in Moscow. It was such a perfectly Susan moment. She embraced life wholeheartedly and saw more of the world than most of us could ever hope to. Susan was the consummate social organizer, bringing people together and making sure everyone was happy, well fed, and well watered. She, Bryce, and Carie all tried—with varying degrees of success—to teach me how to play bridge. The evenings usually ended with me sheepishly saying, “I’m sorry, Susan, but I have to go to bed.” She was always far harder to keep up with than I was prepared to admit. She will be desperately missed by everyone who knew her. Her greatest legacy, however, is her two wonderful children, who carry forward her warmth, generosity, positive spirit, and love of life's good things. Susan lived fully, loved deeply, and made the world a brighter place for so many people. I am privileged to have known her. With Love - David
