“If I Know what love is…it is because of you”
Peacefully, on January 25th, 2024, Muriel Frances Pontius left this world.
During her 97 years she lived a full life. She loved her curling, knitting, dancing (and she was good!) and her furry companion pets, especially Mocha. She played card games and could outlast other players. She loved Golf (both the sport and card game), Five Crowns and Sequence. Shuffleboard was another game that she played well and as her daughter I never wanted to go up against her.
My mother was born August 3, 1926 in Arcola, Saskatchewan to George and Ethel Morrell. She loved to share stories of the farm life and though it wasn’t an easy time financially during the ‘Dirty Thirties’ they always made do.
Mom was a fast runner and she was always complimented on her legs, even later in life.
She grieved as her sister siblings predeceased her - Faye, Doris and Helen. Her brother Cecil is her only surviving sibling. She was also predeceased by her son Edward, her parents and the love of life, her husband O’Ray.
Mom knitted beautiful sweaters, mittens and scarves for people who were lucky enough to receive them. I can’t tell how much music meant to her. She loved country music and Charlie Pride dedicated ‘Kiss An Angel Good Morning’ to her at a concert at the Regina Casino. She felt so special! She loved getting her free coffee and paying her 38 cents on the slots at the Casino.
Muriel leaves to mourn her daughter Cheryl and George (Jessica) son Brett and Karen (Christopher and Mark) and Heather and partner Peter (Ben and Cassie).
Mom, we spent a lot of years together. You were there when I needed you and I hope you felt I was always there for you. I received word of my Mom’s passing while holidaying in Monteverde, Costa Rica. The next morning, while sitting in the Lanai of our little cabin, a beautiful blue Hummingbird flew around us. Hummingbirds were my Mom’s favourite bird. I will take that as a special sign.
Private family interment for both Mom and Dad will be held in Carlyle Cemetery, Carlyle, SK in the Spring of 2024.
Love and miss you with all my heart, Mom. Give Dad a big and kiss for me.
