December 19, 2023
Our beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, friend, nephew, Matt Drackett passed away accidentally on December 19, 2023.
Matt was born in Regina, SK on November 26, 1982. Soon after, he welcomed his sisters, Cathie and Jayne. While they often fought like siblings, he was happy to invite them to play and hang with his older, cooler buddies. His sisters loved being included in the fun and getting into trouble with him. He also saw the benefit in having them around to practice wrestling moves on, crash test tobogganing ramps, and to delegate as goalie in street hockey matches.
Matt played many sports but wrestling is where he excelled with great skill and passion. He went on to compete at a national level, coached, and enjoyed the challenge and camaraderie of the sport. For Matt, physical fitness and ability were important. He loved to challenge himself to tests of strength and conditioning. These feats included swimming across Last Mountain Lake, rolling a tractor tire up Lebret hill and running a sub 2 hour half marathon with minimal training.
In school, Matt received good grades and a few teachers actually considered him a gifted student (in spite of several trips to the principal’s office, and rarely studying). He excelled in creative writing. He was able to express his expansive imagination and thoughts through writing, and would draw collages (Where’s Waldo style) with many characters and figures, all engaged in an activity and telling a story. His creativity and love of humor made him excellent at telling groan-inducing dad jokes.
Few enjoyed a day like Matt could. He loved early mornings, working out, Spartan races, biking, swimming, MMA, wrestling, cutting trees, boxing, hockey, camping, hanging with buddies, playing chess, Scrabble, Word Blitz, baseball, dragon boats, hiking, kayaking, and running the lake.
Matt worked at different vocations over the years and found his niche when he started Drack Attack, a tree removal business. He was extremely proud of his venture which allowed him to combine his love of outdoors, climbing, power tools, feats of strength, an element of danger, and doing good work for happy customers.
Matt was fun, intelligent, adventurous, quick witted and tough. He had a softness and appreciation for the family dogs, the elderly, and his niece Nora.
Matt had challenges that he worked hard to overcome. Substance disorders are complex but Matt was strong and resilient and never gave up.
Matt will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Mitch and Nancy; his sisters Jayne Wolfe (Dan) and Cathie Drackett (Mark); his niece Nora Wolfe; step-grandmother Ruth Drackett; aunts, uncles, many cousins, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Murray and Mary Drackett, Margaret Van Buskirk, Harold Van Buskirk and his uncle Scott Drackett.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. in Heritage United Church, 1050 N. Arnason St., Regina, SK. It will be live streamed on https://www.facebook.com/HUCRegina/
In lieu of flowers, donations in Matt’s name can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Regina Humane Society or a charity of your choosing.

Matt was one of the guys who always kept my head up in dark times. He was definitely a light in my life. The amount of laughs we have had were unmatched. It was a pleasure having you as a part of my life brother. Rest in peace.

I worked with Matt at the refinery. I asked him if he liked UFC haha. Dude had so many puns and was always a dedicated hard worker. He would give the shirt off his back and had a pure heart. He never wanted you to be weak he had a "never give up attitude". I knew he had some struggles but he always bounced back. He had a ton of Respect for First Nations teachings such as sweat lodge, language and the close Knit family values. You are missed and forever in our hearts Matty!! Thank you for being a great friend. Always had that positive strong alpha mentality. Matt was a real funny guy. Horse over and out 🙏 ❤️

I met Matt years back for some trees wanted to remove. I kept the tree and his number for some reason that I may need him down the road. 2023 I bought heritage building in Dewdney Ave. I called Matt to meet again and do some work around the building. From the first moment I gave him my building key welcoming him to put his sign and create the Properly Management Business advocating and supporting him with no hesitation and anything in return. Matt reminded me my son who passed away 1 year ago at 32. I knew he had his struggles but I was on with it. Today I heard his passing and I am grateful for his friendship and his kindness with me. My condolences to the family Matt was exceptional sweet man. His spirit is around my building I felt it today while was changing a light fixture. I will light my Greek Orthodox candle for him today Rest In Peace Matthew 🙏 I am shocked

Mitch and family, so sorry to hear of your loss. My neighbor at Katepwa had Matt take down a tree last year that was precariously perched across the property line and over our cabin.
My neighbor couldn't say enough good things about the job Matt did and how professional he was to deal with.
My thoughts are with you, Nancy and the family.

My deepest sympathies to Nancy and family. Nancy we worked together in PAC and know at this time how hard it is. Know that it will slowly get better, he is always with you in your heart. Time and family helped me get through it this last year and you will to. All my thoughts, Linda. God bless.

Mitch, Nancy & family,
So sorry to read about your son, brother and uncle’s passing, too soon. Although I did not know him, reading all the stories painted a picture of the great person he was. May many happy memories help keep him alive in your hearts and minds forevermore 🙏 hugs. Claudette & David Beitel

Mitch, Nancy, Cathie and Jayne, I was devastated when I saw Matt’s obituary. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Matt not only took care of my yard, but we both enjoyed a coffee together after. Occasionally the doorbell would ring and there would be Matt standing there holding a coffee with a big grin on his face. Sometimes the bell would ring and there would be just the coffee sitting there. I was his teacher, but later he became a friend who would check on his former teacher to make sure she was okay. My dogs loved his visits as well. I’m just so heartbroken that these visits ended because of a death far too soon. I will miss him so much. I’m just so sorry for this loss of your Matthew, a kind and caring soul who will be missed by many.💔

Our condolences to Matt’s family. We first met Matt in his hockey days playing with our son Tyson. Then I ran into Matt at the YMCA working out and playing pickleball. Had a great visit with him. My heart goes out to all of you.

My condolences to the Drackett family. I was saddened to hear of Matt’s passing, but grateful to have known him. We went to elementary school together and though we never connected much as kids, we did more as adults. Matt invited me to join him for lunch a few years ago, and though we didn’t know each other well, it was a pleasure catching up and having a laugh as if we were old friends. This speaks volumes to the type of person Matt was, and I’m thankful to have this happy memory of him.
We are always available and on call 24/7.
