Buchanan, Mary Elizabeth

March 11, 2026

Mary Elizabeth Buchanan

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Buchanan (nee Baird) on March 11, 2026 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan following a courageous battle with cancer.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Donald Buchanan; children Kaiman, Kailan (Kiera); precious grandson Holden and her baby cat; also mourning her tremendous loss is her mother Melba Baird; her two sisters Pam and Renee (Bill); along with nieces and nephews Shawna (Dave), Josh (Emily) and Jessica (Sam); as well as special Aunt Lorraine Spracklin, special friend Tatiana and aunts and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Cyril Baird.

Mary was born in Newfoundland and later moved to the Northwest Territories where she started a long career with CIBC starting at 16 years of age up to her retirement ending as Branch Manager. Besides being a mother to her two children she was a second mom to many of her children’s friends giving advice and always there to offer support and lend a hand. She cared for all wildlife that entered her garden and loved being out on her deck, garden and FaceTiming always.

She loved her trips back home to Newfoundland taking in family time, hiking, whale watching, sightseeing, smelling the sea air and cramming in whatever she could that time allowed with many adventures.

We extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Pasqua Hospital Oncology fifth floor entire team, Doctors, nurses, social worker Sandra Goodman-Chartier and support staff as well as the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit 3A. Your professionalism, care and kindness will never be forgotten.

As per Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service will be held in Newfoundland at a later date laying her to rest with her father. Donations in Mary’s name may be made to a charity or animal rescue of one’s choice.
