April 17, 2023
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Lorraine Ingeborg Johnson, late of Regina, Saskatchewan, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world suddenly on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the age of 83 years.
Lorraine was born on July 2, 1939 in Cupar, Saskatchewan and was the youngest daughter of five siblings to Fred and Frieda Oswald. Lorraine spent her formative years in Edmonton, Alberta and Inglis, Manitoba and after high school attended teachers’ college and pursued a brief teaching career.
Lorraine returned to Saskatoon and completed a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan in 1965. It was through her involvement with the Luther League at Trinity Lutheran Church that she met her husband, Larry Johnson. On December 27, 1965, on the coldest day of the year, they married. She moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan to be with him and had 4 children Deanna, Cameron, Janis and Katherine. In 1980, the family moved to Regina.
Lorraine’s working career consisted of working at various pharmacies in Swift Current, Regina, and Southey until she retired in 2004. Her organization and leadership skills led her to be a highly valued member of many boards and organizations such as Kiwanis, Synchro Sask, Skate Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority Volunteers Services. In 2002, Lorraine was named the Volunteer of the Year with Synchro Sask and in 2006 received the Volunteer Award with Sask Sport.
Lorraine enjoyed sports and hobbies throughout her life. She curled, golfed and enjoyed camping with the family. She was an avid bridge player and was competitive in any card, board or dice game that she played. She found happiness in traveling, her hardanger stitching, reading, puzzles and playing with her cats. She also found joy in raising and spending time with her family and sharing her many gifts with her church and community.
Lorraine liked structure and as such, would have a tendency to step in on occasion to organize events or functions that she considered disorderly, much to the chagrin of her children. She considered herself shy but always insisted on participating in the organization’s activities that she, her husband and children participated in. In turn she developed a lot of lifetime friends from these organizations. Lorraine has always been strong minded and strong willed to keep the family on the straight and narrow.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 57 years, Larry Johnson; children Deanna (Darin Orb), Cameron, Janis, and Katherine (Dan Upward); grandchildren Jordan, Joshua, Evelyn and Graham. She will also be mourned by her siblings Art, Robert and Roy (Carol) Oswald, twin sister Lorna Throndson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Fred and Frieda Oswald and her other family including Lynn and Eileen Oswald, Terry Throndson, Don and Kieran Johnson and Carol Boden.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 190 Massey Road, Regina, SK. Live streaming of the memorial service will be available through Zoom at https://zoom.us/join (Meeting ID: 306 586 0006, Passcode: 190)
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorraine may be made to Our Savior`s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Fred and Frieda Oswald Bursary with the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon, SK or to a charity of your choosing.

Condolence to the family our thoughts are with you as you share memories at this time of celebration of Lorraine. On behalf of the Regina General Hospital Auxiliary I want to thank you for sharing Lorraine’s time with us. Lorraine was an auxiliary member who was a joy to work with. She always had a smile and gave of her time as a Treasurer on the board, a friendly and caring volunteer at the Gift and Book shops. She always had time to listen, laugh and support patients and their families at the General Hospital. As President I so appreciated her willingness to assist and go the extra mile whenever I called to ask for advice.
Thank you for your service Lorraine
