July 18, 2023
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Marvin Meyer. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away with family by his side on July 18th, 2023 at the age of 91.
He is survived by his wife Linda, sons Scott (Gillian) and Trent, granddaughter Mackenna, special niece Donna (Brent) Bernhauser, special grandnieces Kelsey and MacKenzie, siblings Ken (Colleen), Doreen Wagner, Joan McLeod, and sisters/brothers-in-law Leona (Ed) Solonynko, Ben (Dorine) Mintzler, Ida Seeck, Phyllis Mintzler as well as many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary Meyer, in-laws Jacob and Lydia Mintzler, brothers Bob and Elwood and brothers/sisters in-law Don McLeod, Allan Wagner, Lila Meyer, Jim and Vi Schreiner, Walter and Norma Berner, Hubert Seeck, Erich and Norma Mintzler, and George Mintzler.
Leonard was born at Cupar on March 13th, 1932. At an early age his family moved to the farm near Lestock. He attended Granatier School and high school in Lestock. Upon graduation he attended Normal School in Moose Jaw and took classes at the University of Saskatchewan to become a teacher.
Leonard was an educator in and around Regina for 35 years. His first teaching jobs were in small country schools, moving to Lipton, and eventually finding employment in Regina in the early 60’s where he worked until his retirement in 1990.
While teaching in Lipton, he taught his future bride Linda Mintzler. While not officially dating, there was a connection. Upon her graduation, Leonard took a job in Regina and Linda attended business college. They were married on July 25th, 1964 in Lipton, and took up residence in Regina.
Their family grew in 1968 with the arrival of their first son Scott, and again in 1970 with their second son Trent. For the next twenty years, much of their time was spent at hocky rinks, ball diamonds, and gymnasiums around Regina and Saskatchewan as they shuttled the boys to their activities. Summers included many camping and fishing trips, time was spent at family gatherings, and musical events.
Leonard was an avid gardener and his garden always produced a bounty of vegetables and bouquets of flowers. Leonard and Linda were lucky enough to travel in retirement and were able to set foot on every continent except Antarctica.
Growing up he was very athletic, with baseball being his favourite sport, as he often fondly recalled his days playing with the Lestock Red Socks. He was an avid Leafs and Blue Jays fan, and later his ball watching switched to his granddaughter Mackenna, and if possible, he never missed a game up until this June.
He will be fondly remembered, and greatly missed.
A Celebration of Leonard’s Life will take place at New Hope Lutheran Church, 370 McIntosh St. N, Regina, SK on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. .
Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.

Linda and family: We were glad we had a chance to talk with you this afternoon before the service--and what a wonderful service it was. Please tell Scott that he did a very admirable job of honoring his Dad under these difficult circumstances. Len would have been proud of his part in the service. Kind regards to you and the family. To Mr Meyer’s family, Mr Meyer was my grade 8 teacher at Imperial School in 77-78. I have many memories of him and our class. We called him “masa .” He encouraged us and was so understanding. He was one of those teachers who one will always remember. My deepest condolences 💜

Linda, Scott, Trent and Family, Our deep condolences to you all. Leonard touched me in so many ways as our paths engaged. He was a remarkable educator which was atested when he had to mold the mind of a smug, belligerent cousin in public school, a mentor in pursuance of a life-changing education, a consummate gentleman, and we were honoured and blessed to have Leonard as our Cousin and Friend. His positive attitude and personality was truly infectious. Remembering Leonard will always bring warm, comforting and happy memories as he did whenever he touched our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of your loss, Craig and Sue
