Denomie-Bird, Katana Lee

June 5, 2023

Katana Lee Denomie-Bird

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our incredible fighting princess warrior Katana Lee. She passed away peacefully early Monday morning June 5, 2023 surrounded with love and family by her side.

Katana was and forever will be known for braveness, courage and strength. She fought so hard and so long against her battle with Progressive Friedreich’s Ataxia. Katana was diagnosed with this disease at the precious young age of 7 and has fought and battled for 8 long years. She never let this disease define who she was. She had the biggest, brightest eyes with the most beautiful smile that would light up any room that she was in. She was always smiling, laughing, making small little jokes that would make everyone around her laugh. She always found a way for anyone who met her to instantly be drawn to her and never forget how beautiful and how strong she was.

Katana shared a lot of her time with her younger brother Kash who also has Friedreich’s Ataxia. Their bond was unbreakable. They did everything together. He will always remember all the fun times and things they did together; they were inseparable.

Katana had a real love for swimming, she enjoyed going every second week at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre for therapy. She would look forward to blasting Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars for the hour while she could just relax and float and be free of her pain. She was very appreciative of all the staff at Wascana on Unit 2-5 who have helped and made the last few months comforting, the Peds outpatient staff at Wascana, all the nursing staff on 4F at Regina General Hospital and the emergency staff, the staff at Jim Pattinson Hospital in the PICU and Peds ward and of course Dr. Hodgson-Viden who has been on this journey with us from the beginning.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Silton Hall, Silton, Saskatchewan.
