June 4, 2025
Surrounded by her family, Joan Barbara Middleton (née Kolody), age 80, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Born on June 11, 1944, Joan leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and devotion to family.
Joan was a devoted wife to her husband Doug. They met in elementary school and celebrated 61 years of marriage. She was also a loving mother to their son Ron, and daughter Leann. Joan’s love extended across generations; she was a proud grandmother to Katherine (Donald) and Dallas (Kayla), and a cherished great-grandmother to Bexlee, Oaklyn, Dawn and Jackson.
She was predeceased by her parents Katherine and Joseph Kolody, mother-in-law Marguerite Coolican, and son-in-law Brian Gelmich. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Joan dedicated many years working in the Administration Office at the Sherwood Co-op. Her work reflected her steady nature and attention to detail. Outside of work and family, Joan found joy in many hobbies that showcased her creativity and zest for life. She had a passion for crafting ceramic dolls and, upon retiring, discovered an artistic talent with oil painting. Joan and Doug travelled across Canada, the US and Europe and for several years, they spent winter months with friends in Arizona. She also looked forward to her annual trip to Vegas with her son Ron.
For decades, Joan hosted family gatherings with friends and loved ones that always included food, playing cards and laughter. These memories are treasures and were made richer by Joan’s wonderful sense of humor.
Joan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, whose laughter and kindness touched many lives. She was the matriarch of her family, bringing everyone together. Even in her final moments, she remained incredibly strong and compassionate - the very heart of her family. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Palliative Home Care program for their exceptional support and care.
At Joan's request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
"Come to me in my dreams so I can see your smile, take me back to yesterday, even if only for awhile."
