Baumgartner, Iris Arlene

December 8, 2024

Iris Arlene Baumgartner

Iris Baumgartner (Stoudt) passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the age of 86.

Waiting for Iris is her best friend and husband Ben; her dear parents Charles and Theresa Stoudt; her brother Dennis; her sister Delphine Leitner; sister-in-law Mildred Dreher.

Iris leaves to cherish her memory brother-in-law Percy Leitner; siblings Maureen (Ernest) Antoinio, Karen (Garry) Gerein, Kim (Bernie) Klyne and Jana Lyn Kennedy (Aaron); her beloved nieces and nephews; great and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as many family and friends.

Iris had so many talents and hobbies that she excelled at. She was a great cook, gardener, carpenter, seamstress and singer to mention a few. She built a huge deck by herself along with her sister-in-law Dorothy Baumgartner. She sewed her own clothes, sometimes an hour or so before a function. She had a green thumb and could bring anything back to life, her mother used to send plants home with Iris so she could make them healthy again. She loved country music and attended as many shows as she was able. Iris loved to travel and went on several trips with her sister Maureen and sister-in-law Dorothy.

Iris had several different careers over the years. She spent the last 15 years of her working career as a Porter at the Plains Health Centre. Iris’ career ended when they closed their doors, but the friendships that she made over the years with staff and patients continued and remained in her heart.

Iris loved to socialize and had many friends. A ten-minute walk could turn into an hour as she seemed to know everyone. She was genuinely interested in what was new in their lives as well as their children and families lives.

Iris moved to Elmview Special Care Home 12 years ago, February 2012. She soon captured the affection of the staff there. Iris' family wishes to thank all the staff at Elmview for the care, love and help that they provided to Iris. Several of the staff were there for the entire 12 years and reminisced with family the fun they had with Iris. Iris would help Lawry, the Activity Director, bake cinnamon buns and help garden in the early years.

The family will have a Celebration of Iris' Life in the spring of 2025 when she is laid to rest beside her husband Ben. Thank you to Almassy Metz Funeral & Cremation Services for their professional guidance.

Unfortunately living so far away in B.C. I did not have the opportunity to know Iris as well as I would have liked. She was a cousin and visited us a couple times in the Okanagan Valley where we had interesting talks on family life in Saskatchewan.

I was so sorry to hear of Iris’ illness several years ago, and then her passing. She was a cousin of mine, and always had a smile on her face. When I was just a young first-time mom, I would walk over to visit her with my baby. She was so welcoming always. She worked at the Plains Hospital when my dad was ill, and it always comforted us to know that Iris was looking in on Uncle Greg. A very kind and loving lady with a great sense of humour.

She was my best friend. We had the best conversations by my desk on a daily basis. I lived to do things and go places with her. We shared the same tender heart, cried/laughed and sometimes we go into trouble together! I loved her with all my heart. Go be free from the trouble that life brings us my friend. Dance and sing and enjoy your place in heaven. My deepest condolences to all the family.
