March 31, 2025
It is with both heavy hearts and fond smiles that we announce the passing of Ira Darl Moffat, who left us on March 31, 2025 at the age of 68. Ira was born on May 27, 1956, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Ira’s journey was one of love and joy, particularly after marrying Tracy in 1983, the love of his life. Together, they raised two daughters who were the light of his world—Jennifer, born in 1987, and Rebecca, born in 1989. Ira was a dedicated father, full of wisdom, humor, and, of course, a good-natured stubbornness that kept everyone on their toes.
Preceding Ira in death are his beloved grandson Carson; his mother Iris; his sisters Fran, Bonna, and Ellen; as well as his father-in-law Bill; brothers-in-law Tom and Terry; sister-in-law Sandy. While the family members who have passed are deeply missed, we take comfort in the knowledge that Ira is now reunited with them, undoubtedly enjoying a lively conversation about how big his fish was in the great beyond.
He leaves behind his wife of 42 years Tracy; daughter Jennifer (Neill) and grandchildren James and Willow; daughter Rebecca (Pat) and grandchildren Hailey, Ben and Addison; his sisters Cheryl and Nicole; and his brother Terry (Karla); sisters-in-law Carla (Ed) and Linda (Troy); mother-in-law Eleanor; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends..
Ira was known for his infectious laugh, his easygoing nature, and his ability to find humor in any situation—traits that will live on in the memories of all who knew him. Whether it was telling fish stories, hot holidays (especially if it included Deep Sea Fishing), giving advice, or simply sharing a quiet moment, Ira’s presence was one that made life a little bit brighter for everyone. Ira loved to spend his free time fishing, as long as those fishing with him followed his rules. His boat, his catch—he always got the first one and the biggest, although his sister Cheryl seldom let those rules stand. He also loved camping and cheering on the Riders. Ira was so excited to be become a Grandpa, he looked forward to teaching his grandkids the love of fishing, and loved to tease them as well. A daily ritual was Grandpa I love you and he would always reply “Suuuuure you do”, which was Ira’s way of saying I love you. He cherished spending his mornings trying on sticky lipstick and being doted on by Dr. Willow, who loved her Papa dearly. Lunchtime with his buddy James was a highlight he looked forward to, as well. Ira was always the first to lend a hand to the people he cared about, though he might have grumbled a bit while doing so—he was always there, without fail. He loved an early coffee in his lawn chair at the lake, but one of his favorite hobbies was taking a nap.
Ira’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, a proud grandfather, and a friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering support will never be forgotten.
You will be missed more than words can say.
A Private Family Gathering will take place in the Summer of 2025. Cremation has taken place.
