Obituaries

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hugh O. Sanders, after a lengthy illness, on Monday, December 2, 2024 at the age of 81.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Lily Sanders; his brothers Stewart, Malcolm and Donald.

Hugh is survived by his sister Marjorie; his brother Jay (Sharon); sisters-in-law Doreen and Mary; his wife Judy; children Shirley (Brian), Thomas (Esther), Daniel (Cheryl) and Timothy; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Hugh was born in Regina Beach, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Assiniboia, Saskatchewan when Hugh was about 6 months old. Later they moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and Hugh went to King George Public School, Central Collegiate and Peacock High School.

He became a born-again Christian in about 1967. Then he went to Bible School in Eston, Saskatchewan. After that he pastored at Yorkton Apostolic Church and Assiniboia Apostolic Church. The family moved back to Regina in1975. Hugh worked at many jobs such as driving taxi, cooking pizzas and teaching Bible School. He spent many years working as Coordinator for the North Central Community Society. He was also on the Zone Board, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Board, as well as working with Regina City Hall.

Hugh loved to play cards and games with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, camping trips, doing puzzles and computer games. Most of all he will be remembered for his quick wit and love for a good joke. For many he will be remembered for his caring heart whether it be for just listening or as a sounding board for advice. When he saw a need for help, he was stirred to action.

At Hugh’s requested there will be no funeral or memorial service. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Hugh may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion.
