December 29, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garnet Eugene Hudgin, who passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at the age of 96, surrounded by his loving family.
Garnet was born on the family farm just outside Cupar, SK to Frankie and Howard Hudgin. Raised alongside his 10 siblings, he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and an early interest in fixing and building things. Even as a young man, Garnet was known for his hands-on skills. At the age of 17, he worked as an apprentice at the Cupar blacksmith shop, where he learned the trade and honed his problem-solving abilities. His exceptional knowledge and craftsmanship allowed him to repair and fix countless items, not only for himself but for others in his neighborhood as well. This talent for fixing things would stay with him throughout his life and became one of his defining qualities.
Garnet was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, the love of his life. He is survived by his children Debbie (Rick), Douglas, Rhonda (Kirk), and Donna (Harvey); as well as his grandchildren Brandi, Desiree, Jamie, Carlie, Marley, Stephen, Jolene, Vanessa, Ariana, and Tyren; his 15 great-grandchildren, with whom he shared many fond memories.
In his younger years, Garnet was an avid pool player, curler, and had a great passion for hunting and fishing. As a traveling salesman for Crane Supply, Garnet often took advantage of his work trips to explore new places and enjoy his hobbies.
Garnet, along with Joan and the family, spent many cherished summers at their cottage on Mission Lake, SK. There, they created lasting memories, whether gathered around bonfires, playing cards, or simply enjoying the company of friends and family.
After retirement, Garnet returned to curling and expanded his love of gardening, sharing the bounty of his labor with many. He also cherished his daily coffee gatherings with friends at Northgate Mall, where the camaraderie and conversations brought him much joy.
Garnet’s legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Garnet’s Life will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Westminster United Church, 3025 – 13th Avenue, Regina, SK. Please park in Holy Rosary Cathedral East parking lot off Cameron Street. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to CNIB or Carmichael Outreach in Garnet’s honor.
We are deeply grateful for the love and support that surrounded Garnet throughout his life. Though he will be dearly missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

We spend most weekends with Garnet out at our cottage . He would pull up on Saturday mornings and park right by HIS garden take a look at the progress and wander over the bridge for breakfast! Then back to the garden work for awhile and back to the house to watch the blue jays and maybe a little nap!
