Kindred (née McCullough), Frances Marie

March 19, 2025

Frances Marie Kindred (née McCullough)

With profound love and sadness, we announce the passing of Frances Kindred (née McCullough), who peacefully left us on March 19, 2025, at the age of 91, after a long and fulfilling life.

Fran was born on November 22, 1933, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to Bill McCullough and Lottie Fitzgerald. She is survived by her four sons Greg, Norm (Jan), Tom (Patti), and Dave (Leanne Delgarno); she was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren Kyle (Tara), Brandy, Jadi, Jasmine, Connor (Emily Rowe), Daniel, Krista (Shane) Wolaniuk, and Luc (Ashley Welter-Kindred); cherished great-grandmother to Henrik and Jovie Wolaniuk and Scarlet Kindred. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Herb Kindred, and their son, Clint.

Fran’s passion for teaching began with her graduation from the Moose Jaw Normal School, where she earned her Teaching Diploma. She had a long and rewarding career as an elementary school teacher before dedicating herself fully to raising her family.

Fran met Herb at the Moose Jaw roller rink, the beginning of a love story built on devotion and mutual respect. Together, they raised their five boys, filling their home with love, laughter, and the occasional chaos that comes with a large family.

In 1972, Fran and Herb moved their family to Regina, Saskatchewan, where they became pillars of the community. Fran was a devoted mother who supported her sons in every way, from cheering them on at events to hosting legendary family dinners—often announced by the sound of the smoke alarm. Despite the challenges of raising five boys, she pursued her artistic passions and became a distinguished artist, generously sharing her skills with students over the years.

The family’s beloved cottage at Crystal Lake, built in 1973, was Fran’s sanctuary for more than 50 years. Whether water skiing, playing cards, or hosting countless gatherings, she created a space where laughter and love thrived. Holidays were her masterpiece—she often hosted over twenty family members, ensuring everyone felt welcome and cherished.

In the 1980s, Fran and Herb opened the Great Skate Roller Centres in Regina, a business that not only strengthened their family but became a place of connection. Each of their sons met their future wives at the roller rink, just as Fran and Herb had met years before—an enduring family legacy. Whether at the roller rink or their cottage at Crystal Lake, their lives were rich with friendship, adventure, and cherished memories.

Known for her heart of gold and quick wit, Fran had an insatiable curiosity and a gift for making others smile. Even in her 90s, she engaged with those around her, spreading joy and kindness wherever she went.

A devout Catholic, Fran’s faith was her guiding light, offering her strength and comfort throughout her life. She lived by the values of love, compassion, and generosity – lessons she passed on to everyone she met.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Resurrection Roman Catholic Church, 3155 Windsor Park Road, Regina, Saskatchewan. Live streaming of the service may be viewed at: https://youtube.com/live/EfwRcy5tg9Y?feature=share

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Chalice, a cause that was especially close to Fran’s heart. Chalice, a Canadian Catholic charity, empowers children living in poverty by providing education, support, and hope for a brighter future. A devoted supporter, Fran personally sponsored three children and, in a final act of generosity, established an endowment to ensure their education continues through adulthood. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the lives she touched.

My sincere condolences to you Greg, Norm, Tom and Dave and your families. Your mom was a very giving person. I’ll always remember how kind she was when you guys were renovating our cabin. She always helped clean up. We had many happy visits together, playing bridge and having happy hours. May she rest in peace with the Lord. I’m sure she’s smiling down.
