It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) May Alexander (nee Chapman) on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the age of 89. Betty passed away peacefully in the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home after a long battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her husband Morley, father Harold, mother Florence, best friend Lutie Swanick, brothers David Chapman and Pat Chapman, stepdaughter Bev Rumpel and her husband Dave Rumpel and their daughter Kathryn.
Betty leaves to mourn her stepdaughter Val (Greg) Alexander, grandchildren Erin (Ian) Beth and Lisa (Tom) Rumpel and great-grandchildren Manon, Jack and Sadie; her sister Doreen Simpson and her daughters - Donna (Fraser) Sharpe, Patti Byth, Terry Simpson, Sandi (Mel) Babyak, Bette (Irv) Simpson and JoAnn (Barry) Rud; sister-in-law Alice Chapman and her children - Brian (Carol) Chapman, Richard (Brenda) Chapman, Lorelei (Jim) Chapman; sister-in-law Carolyn Chapman and her children – Chris (Sandi) Chapman and Doug (Yuliya) Chapman; and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Betty was born July 2, 1933 in Regina, SK and grew up on Wallace Street in the Eastview area of Regina attending Haultain School and Central Collegiate. Betty later attended nursing school at Regina General Hospital graduating in 1959 with a total of 16 in her class. Over the years she kept in touch with these special friends and attended many reunions.
Betty was a lover of all animals but especially her many dog companions over the years – Lady, Buffy, Cody, Lacie – to name a few.
She married Morley Alexander in 1982 and became a stepmother to his two daughters Bev and Val and loving grandmother to Bev’s children Erin and Lisa.
Betty’s nursing career at the Regina General Hospital was overseeing the home monitoring program for newborn babies. She loved her job and was proud to be a nurse. She retired in 1994.
Betty loved time with her large extended family and hosting many dinners and events at the farm near Regina Beach, SK. She was actively involved in the community but most fondly a member of the choir at the Regina Beach United Church.
Betty lived life to the fullest, with gratitude and grace. Her beautiful smile and loving soul will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for their many years of care of Betty. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Santa Maria Foundation Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Regina Beach United Church, Green Avenue and Centre Street, Regina Beach, Saskatchewan with a lunch to follow at Regina Beach Memorial Hall, 101 Centre Street, Regina Beach, Saskatchewan
