Schaeffer, Douglas "Doug" Alexander

January 11, 2024

Douglas "Doug" Alexander Schaeffer

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Alexander Schaeffer, age 71 years, on January 11, 2024 with God’s love and family at his side. He was born on March 24, 1952.

Doug was known by many for his love of music and his musical talents. Doug started playing the accordion at an early age and his love of music only grew from there. Through playing at numerous cabarets, weddings, gatherings and at senior’s homes in his later years, Doug was able to share his passion for music with others and made many lifelong friends. Doug’s family and friends were particularly important to him, and he always had a smile on his face whenever they were around. Doug loved spending his summers at Nickle Lake, traveling for concerts and shows with his wife Jeanne, playing cribbage with his children and proudly attending his grandchildren’s events. Doug lived life to the fullest and always filled the room with hearty laughter from his great sense of humour, which will be dearly missed.

Left to mourn is his wife, Jeanne Schaeffer (Gauthier); his children Michelle (Rod) Lenz and their children Hallee, Abigail and Noah; Daniel (Colleen) Schaeffer; Alison Poelen and her children Blake, Jody, and Regan; Michael (Jennifer) Schaeffer and their children Andrew and Nicholas; Brittany Happy and her son Alex; his sisters Jeanette and Leonard Schaeffer, Dianne and John Dornstauder; his brother Thomas and Carmela Schaeffer; Uncle Paul Eberle, Aunt Patricia Eberle and Aunt Rose Eberle; brother-in-law Denis and Lynn Gauthier, sisters-in-law Irene Gauthier, Alma and Rene Labbe, Leona Chartrand; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who were like family to Doug.

Doug was predeceased by his parents Nick and Lauretta Schaeffer, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Cecile Gauthier (Lallier).

A Polka Mass will be held in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Vibank, SK on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Vibank, SK at a later date.

A reception in celebration of his life with lunch and music will be held in the Francis Hall following the Mass. The hall is located at 201 Main St, Francis, SK.

The family would like to thank the staff of Palliative Care Unit 3A at the Pasqua Hospital for their compassion while caring for Doug.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St. Regina, SK S4P 2R3.

I didn’t know him well but whenever I saw him he had a smile to share. I got to “know” him when he played at Queen Victoria Estates and through Facebook. He seemed to have been a fun-loving, family loving, and God-loving man who made a lot of people happy…...a man that the world will miss.
