September 4, 2023
With incredibly heavy hearts, we share Dorothy Souster passed peacefully on September 4, 2023. Dorothy lived a life full of memories starting with her birth at Warman Hospital in Warman, Saskatchewan on September 17, 1947.
She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Helen Peters, her brothers Harvey and Alvin Peters, her sister Verna Pauls, brothers-in-law Robert (Bob) Pauls, George Sawatzky and Darrell Souster, and sisters-in-law Sharonlynn Denesyk and Evelyn Peters.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered and survived by her husband Dennis (Rick) Souster, son Denton Souster, daughter-in-law Janelle Schwartz, daughter Danielle Nicolaescu, son-in-law Adrian Nicolaescu, granddaughters Ellianna Souster, Natalia and Nadia Nicolaescu, her sisters Joan Peters and Ruth Nesdoly, brothers-in-law Roger Nesdoly and Hal Souster, sisters-in-law Joan Souster and Shirley Peters, plus her cherished nieces and nephews.
After attending school in Olser and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Dorothy, at the age of 17, began her memorable work at Saskatoon Cancer Research. A few years later she transferred over to work at the Veterinary College until taking time off to raise Denton and Danielle. She contributed greatly to every job she held and found particularly great fulfillment and enjoyment working in Environmental Services on the bustling Labour and Delivery Unit at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. There she worked with incredible colleagues who quickly became some of her closest friends and traveling companions.
Since retiring and moving to Regina, Saskatchewan in 2012, Dorothy continued to keep herself busy and her family well fed with all her delicious baking, jams, and fantastic cooking. Many cherished recipes will be regularly recreated in her memory. Once everyone was full and leftovers shared, Mom enjoyed crocheting or knitting while watching curling or "armchair coaching", a.k.a. yelling at the Riders. There were hopefully many warmer heads and fuller tummies on cold winter days thanks to Mom's toque and muffin donations that she and Dad took to local shelters. Mom kept herself out of too much trouble and out of the house as well by bowling weekly with a wonderful group of friends.
Our family will cherish the nostalgic memories of past energetic Peters and Souster family get togethers. We will also treasure more recent adventures such as Mom and Dad's Maritimes trip, a 75th birthday trip to Victoria, and most especially the summer trips to various cabins with her adored granddaughters and family.
Anyone who truly knew Dorothy would agree, she was a strong, fun-loving, caring and inspiring women who will be loved and missed for all time.
As were Dot's wishes, and we shall follow them out of a whole lot of respect (and a little bit of fear), there will be no formal service. Rather a small private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
If contributions wished to be made, Dorothy would want you to consider giving to your local shelters, cancer clinics or palliative care units in any way you can.
The family wishes to thank everyone at the Saskatoon and Regina Cancer Clinics, the Regina Palliative Home Care Team, the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit and all of Dorothy's friends and family for their love and support.
