June 15, 2023
The family of Doreen Ruth Simpson (nee Chapman) announces with great sorrow her passing on June 15, 2023.
Doreen was 91 years old and passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home in Regina, SK. She was predeceased by her father Harold, mother Florence, infant son Larry, her brothers David Chapman and Pat Chapman and her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Alexander.
Doreen leaves to mourn her six daughters Donna (Fraser) Sharpe, Patti Byth, Terry Simpson, Sandi (Mel) Babyak, Bette (Irv) Simpson and Jo-Ann (Barry) Rud; 8 grandchildren Cortnay, Brad, Mathew, Sarah, Shannon, Megan, Dylan and Nicole; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Alice Chapman and Carolyn Chapman; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Northern Ireland.
Doreen was born on November 29, 1931 in Regina, SK and grew up on Wallace Street in the Eastview area of Regina. She attended Haultain School and Central Collegiate.
Doreen married Web Simpson in 1953 and they had six daughters together. Doreen worked part-time at The Bay while the girls were in school. When Doreen became a single parent in the late 1970's she went back to school to upgrade her education. She then worked at SaskPower/SaskEnergy until her retirement at age 65.
Doreen was the main caregiver for her mother Florence until her death in 1989.
Doreen loved to host and cook dinners for family, extended family and the friends of her daughters. She was an excellent cook and everyone enjoyed dinners at her house. She loved to BBQ and host dinners in the backyard during the summer months.
Doreen dedicated her life to her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, classic movies (favorite “Gone with the Wind”), riding her bike, crossword puzzles, reading the paper and dog sitting her “grand” dogs. Doreen was an avid Rider Fan and never missed watching or listening to a Rider game.
The family would like to thank the staff of Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for their many years of care for our Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Santa Maria Foundation.
A Celebration of Doreen’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crave Kitchen and Wine Bar, 1925 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK. Please RSVP to joerud@hotmail.com if you plan to attend.
