September 17, 2025
Donald Colgrove Puff, born on August 9, 1949, shared his last toast of tequila on September 17, 2025 in his hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan. He died with his wife, Robin Smith, by his side, along with loved ones George, Angela, Meagan, Mark and Gwen.
Throughout his life, Don worked hard and was devoted to those closest to him, with a generosity that was as legendary as his convictions. He took immense pride in supporting “his people” and would go without if it meant helping someone he loved. His caring and stubborn nature was also put to good use during his spell as a union leader, working as a champion for others.
Don could be intimidating, with a wicked sense of humour and passion for debate. But his wisdom and kindness shone through for those who took the time to get to know him and spent hours in conversation. He offered a listening ear and found real joy in the successes and happiness of the people around him.
Don loved gatherings and bringing people together, preferring to be quietly in the mix rather than at the centre of attention. His enthusiasm for football was known by all who spent time with him, in particular his devotion to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the New England Patriots. Beyond sports, Don was well-known in bygone days for his involvement with Buffalo Days and the Rowdy Gang.
Don found joy in life’s simple pleasures: tending to blooming peonies, hanging out with the dogs, and enjoying a roaring fire with good friends. Christmas was his favourite time of year, and he worked hard to make it magical for the children in his life and those passing by, by going all out with lights and decorations during the holidays.
He leaves a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity. Don faced hardship and heartache with resourcefulness and spirit, inspiring many people along the way. As those closest to him recall, “he was at his best when he was needed.” All you had to do was ask.
The family invites friends and loved ones to remember Don as he would want: gathering together, sharing memories and stories, raising a glass, and laughing well into the evening.
