Dennis Harrison passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024 at the age of 78 surrounded by support and love.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents William and Marguerite Harrison; his brother William “Buster” (deceased 2000); his sister Joyce (deceased 1993; Germaine).
He is survived by his son Brent Hayman-Abello (Susan); grandchildren Rob and Katie; his siblings Fraser (Janice), Alvin, Morley (Fay) and Verne (Gladys); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Dennis was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He completed Teachers’ College in Ontario where he also taught for a brief period before returning to Regina to teach Grades 5 through 8 at several schools throughout the city. Across his 40 years in that role, he was appreciated and admired by numerous colleagues and his impact on students was broad and meaningful. Dennis profoundly affected the lives of so many and earned such gratitude over the years that several students referred to him as ‘Dad’ and not just Mr. Harrison. After retiring from teaching, he also worked as a Commissionaire at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.
Dennis was loved by his large family whose lives he regularly followed and kept up with across Canada and the United States. He inspired others as his profession was also his passion. A great storyteller to the end, Dennis and the wild tales of his childhood will be remembered fondly and deeply missed. Dennis was still connecting with family near and far right up to his passing.
As per Dennis’s wishes no service will be held. Because of his dedication to teaching and helping children, in lieu of flowers memorial donations in Dennis’s memory may be made to the Autism Resource Centre of Regina, Saskatchewan.

I was very sorry to learn of Dennis passing away he was a great guy with a terrific sense of humor, his brother Verne and I are very good friends.
Mr. Harrison was the best teacher I ever had. He taught me in fifth grade and played a big part in shaping me into the person I am today. I will always be grateful that he believed in me and encouraged me to be the best I could be.

Mr. Harrison was my teacher for 2 years in a row. He is actually the reason I went on in life to become a Middle Years teacher. How sad to hear he has passed away. I think of him often on my tougher days of teaching. He really did teach me to believe in myself and I'll forever be thankful for all he taught me!
