November 7, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dennis Banick announces his passing on November 7, 2025. Dennis joined his beloved wife Maureen who passed 15 years earlier.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Myrtle (Kelsey) Banick and his wife Maureen (Radcliffe). He is survived by his daughters Shelly Moerike, Sherry (Dave) Wolvansky; his son Darren (Erin) Banick; his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Dennis was born in Lipton, SK in 1936 to Joseph and Myrtle (Kelsey) Banick. The family moved to Melville, SK where Dennis attended both elementary and high school. He was known around town as Dennis the Menace. He and his friends were always into something.
After high school, Dennis, like many people of Melville went to work for the CN Rail. It was during this time that he met Maureen Radcliffe. After much sweet talking, Dennis convinced Maureen to get married on May 2, 1964. The two celebrated their wedding in front of many family and friends.
In 1965, Dennis took a job with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency as a customs officer. He was posted along the Southern Saskatchewan border working at various ports until he received a permanent post at the port of Estevan Highway. Maureen moved to join him in 1966.
Dennis and Maureen began their family with Shelley and Sherry. The family moved to the Port of Regway where Dennis worked as the port Superintendent. The family was completed with the arrival of son Darren.
In 1979, Dennis and family moved to Regina, SK where he began a management position with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency where he continued in various positions until he retired.
Throughout his lifetime, Dennis made many friends. He was a member of various social groups including The Legion, Elks, and most recently The Eagles. Until recently, the only thing that kept him from going to The Eagles on Saturdays was a Rider game.
Dennis loved classic cars, building and collecting model cars and planes, and woodworking. He was a season ticket holder for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and proudly wore his green and white no matter where he was.
During the summer months he enjoyed taking one of his classic cars to many of the local car shows, where he was well known.
Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He always had a smile, something to say, and enjoyed making others laugh. Over the years, he attended many of his children’s and grandchildren’s events such as school recitals, hockey games, bowling games and band concerts.
Dennis has lost many family members and friends over the years and for the family and friends that are still here, we will miss Dennis’s warm heart and gentle soul.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in The Atlas Hotel, 4177 Albert Street, Regina, SK.

My dad was Wies Nijman and he managed numerous Saskatchewan ports out of Estevan. I remember travelling with him to Regway and meeting your dad there. I remember he was very tall, kind man and my dad spoke very highly of him. Your mom too was very hospitable when we visited. It’s so difficult to bear when we lose our parents but I’m sure you had a wonderful life with your dad. May God bless you during this tough time and bring you peace and joy in your memories.

I have many fond memories of the Banick family when you lived at Regway..Your Mom and I had a lot of good times together and she brought you to our farm to ride ponies. I often thought of you all and wondered where life had brought you all. Dennis was a hard worker and a good community man at Minton. Sincere sympathy to you all on your Dads passing.

Sherry, Shelly and Darren. So sad to hear of the passing of your dad. Your mom and dad were such great neighbours to have while living at the Border. Your mom and dad are probably together dancing in the sky. Your dad will be remembered for his pleasant personality, his love of classic cars, and love for his family.
