Bernie was born in the family farm home in Rosenort, SK, to Johann and Susanna Krahn. He was the 9th child in a long line of siblings. He spent his growing up and teen years doing chores and he frequently talked about them in his final years of living.
He moved to B.C. in his early twenties, to follow his sweetheart, Mary Heinrichs. They married in Marpole, B.C. on June 21, 1952. Shortly thereafter they located to Lethbridge, AB, where their 3 children were born.
Bernie, because of his love of vehicles, sought jobs that involved driving. These included tractors on various farms, buses, a dump truck and a flat deck semi, milk tank trucks, and car carriers. He owned numerous cars throughout. His favourites were a stunning black Chevy coupe and his last Camry, his p&j (pride and joy). He voluntarily gave up driving at the age of 93.
Bernie lived on his own following the death of his wife in 1990. His residences were clean, tidy and everything in order. He was no stranger to brooms, shovels or cleaning rags. He enjoyed having company, to whom he offered coffee, grapes, and corn chips which were always available on the counter!
Bernie was active in the churches he attended throughout his life. He had accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour in his early years in Lethbridge, AB. Although, not one to actively talk about his faith, he served his church communities well. He was especially faithful to the Evangelical Free Church of Regina, SK where he was usually the first person in, getting the lights on, the furnaces running and the coffee percolating. He was generally the last person out, after checking that the lights were all off, the toilets flushed, the furnaces turned down and all the doors locked. He remained faithful in praying for this church and congregation until his passing.
In 2019, Bernie became non-ambulatory. Instead of residing in a long-term care facility he moved in with his daughters Kathy and Sharon, who cared for him until his passing.
Bernie was predeceased by his wife Mary; his parents Johann and Susanna; his brothers Peter, John, Jake, George, Nick, Isaac, Charlie and his sisters Mary, Helena, Susanna, Tina, and Gertrude.
Bernie is survived by his sister Helen Wieler of Swift Current; sister-in-law Matilda Krahn (Isaac); daughter Sharon, son Gary, daughter Kathy; daughters-in-law Mary Jo Krahn, Amy Headline Krahn; grandsons Joe, Zach (Maggie), Alex, Jordan (Becki) and Charles (Xuan); great-grandchildren Charlotte, Charlie, and Maggie; numerous nieces and nephews and – welcomed into his life – Rashawn and Latia Taniskishayinew.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. CST in the Evangelical Free Church, 855 Broad Street North, Regina, SK. Fellowship luncheon to follow at the church. Guests are invited to wear their favourite hat, placed at a jaunty angle. A private interment is to be held at a later date.

Sorry that this amazing and loved uncle passed but he and Mary and Gary, Sharon and Cathy were always a large part of our families lives- camping, picnicing, and harvesting chickens and making noodles with the unlaid eggs. Still drove out west late in life Had a Great generous smile - a belated thanks for his presence still felt!

So happy for Uncle Bernie and his presence in heaven with many extended family members and yet sorrowful for family that is left behind trying to fill the void left by him. I was truly hoping to attend his memorial but could not make it - sincere condolences to all children, in-laws and grandchildren, etc.
